About this listen

Jacqui still remembers what it was like before the honeybee virus destroyed her world. Before children turned into beasts and men desperate for power became raiders. Before she had to disguise herself as a boy. And before her brother Dean left and never came back.

"Jack" asks Fiona and Jonah Tarsis to help find Dean, and they quickly set out - along with Fiona's boyfriend, Bowen - in search of their loved ones. But Jacqui soon discovers that they've kept a dangerous secret from her: they have the cure. With their survival hanging in the balance, Jacqui and her friends must restore their families, preserve the cure, and fight for the chance to rebuild their shattered world.

In "Cured" by Bethany Wiggins, the haunting memories of a world untouched by the honeybee virus linger in Jacqui's mind, casting shadows of a time when life wasn't marred by the transformation of children into beasts and the rise of power-hungry raiders.

The sequel unfolds against the backdrop of Jacqui's reminiscence, painting a poignant contrast between her past joy and the grim reality she faces. Before the need to disguise herself as a boy and embark on a quest to find her missing brother, Jacqui savors the nostalgia of carefree moments, relishing her long hair and indulging in the simple pleasure of devouring cake.

In this harsh new world Jacqui must pose as a boy to avoid abduction by loathsome raiders. And so, as Jack she enlists Fiona and Jonah Tarsis to aid in her quest, joined by Fiona's devoted boyfriend, Bowen. Yet, amid their journey, a revelation shatters Jacqui's world anew: her companions possess the coveted cure, a secret withheld from her. The tale unfolds amidst adrenaline-pumping chase scenes and brutal clashes with raiders, echoing the turbulence of their dystopian reality.

However, amidst the chaos, a tender narrative thread emerges (possible spoilers ahead) —Jacqui's burgeoning affection for Kevin, a relationship layered with revelations and swelling passion, adding depth to the narrative. Amidst the turmoil and struggles endured by the characters, the book culminates in a satisfying conclusion, offering a sense of closure that tempers the hardships they endure. It's a testament to the resilience and fortitude of the characters as they navigate their shattered world, fighting for survival and striving to preserve the cure.

"Cured" stands as a commendable sequel, weaving together action-packed sequences with heartfelt moments and blossoming romance. As a reader, one can't help but hope for a continuation of this saga, anticipating a third installment that could bring a conclusive and enthralling resolution to the entangled fates of these compelling characters.

I enjoyed the second book. The narrator was excellent and easy to listen to, I enjoyed the different voices. I know some people didn’t like the romance part but I did and I am so not a romance reader at all!

Kept me listening
