Arlo Fenn is a detective. Technically. He’s got a badge (somewhere), a notebook (full of meat-related observations), and a holster that refuses to stay where it’s supposed to. Most people forget Arlo exists moments after speaking to him. The rest remember him only as a man who once arrested a coat rack for loitering.

So when a widow calls about her husband’s missing body, Arlo does what any slightly offbeat officer would do: he investigates. And eats lunch. A lot of lunch.

Soon Arlo finds himself visiting a morgue that seems far too eager to explain things, and a restaurant next door that serves meals far too delicious to question. The deeper he digs, the stranger things get but not necessarily clearer.

Because Arlo Fenn doesn't uncover conspiracies. He drifts gently into them with a smile and a side of fries.

Criminally Tender is a darkly comic detective mystery for fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dirk Gently, and Aunty Donna. Packed with deadpan dialogue, wrong turns, and disturbingly good food, it’s the first book in a deliciously absurd series.

An amusing and enertaining little tale of an unassuming detective following his nose to solve a mystery. Lots of funny word play to help the story along, with a nice little sting in the tail. I must get out and do some ingestivating myself! Recommended.

This book had me laughing out loud or alternatively smiling like a fool, it is that funny. Joseph Fouke did a good job narrating the book.
