Story
From a very young age, Chloe Pierce was trained to look after the ones she loved. And she was trained by the best. But when the man who looked after her was no longer there, Chloe is cast adrift - just as the very foundation of her life crumbled to pieces. Then she runs into tall, lanky, unpretentious Judge Oakley, her exact opposite. She shops. He hikes. She drinks pink ladies. He drinks beer. She’s a city girl. He’s a mountain guy. Obviously, this means they have a blowout fight upon meeting. Their second encounter doesn’t go a lot better.

Anya Savikin lived among well-to-do Russian Jews in Poland, in a world more like Tolstoy's than our own, until the first bombing of Warsaw and the chaos that ensued. Her story incarnates the strength and love of Eastern European Jewry, before and after their decimation.
Summary

Creed then decides he's going to do everything in his limited power to shield his Sylvie from her ordeal. So he does, and Creed and Sylvie form a bond that grows and blossoms with their ages. They plot to leave their lives behind, the town they live in that will hold them down and the histories they share that, unless they break free, will bury them. Sylvie goes to their special place; Creed never shows, and she doesn’t see him again until it’s too late. With Creed gone, Sylvie is forced to endure a nightmare and do the unspeakable to end it. To deal, she develops a hard shell with sharp edges through which very few can break. So when Creed again finds his Sylvie, he discovers the girl he loved is locked away, and he has to find his way back into her heart without getting shredded in the process.

Not bad but not my favourite either
The main characters back story is super cute and extremely sad. The heroine is strong and tougher than most but I don’t really like how she gives into Creed so easily. The narrator did a good job but I was just not a big fan of her voice, that is on me not on her talent. Sad story with a happy ending and some sexy scenes in between.

BAD ASS STORY ON ALL FRONTS!!
Sylvia is as bad ass and powerful as all the alpha males Ashley creates, whilst suffering through a bad past at the heart of this book is an endearing love story that originates at childhood. This series as a whole is much darker and haunting as the characters battle their pasts. Therefore it's not quite as funny as Ashley's other ingenious series (Rock Chick Series). Whilst I find this delicate romance story touching as you hear it progress over years and years ever since Sylvia was six - yet that was the one annoying part about this story I didn't like the constant flashbacks although I can see how they are vital to this story.

Bad Porn
Would you try another book written by Kristen Ashley or narrated by Mackenzie Cartwright?
No
What was most disappointing about Kristen Ashley’s story?
There was the nub of a story in there but it was marred by almost incessant, badly written porn scenes. The female characters were all portrayed as passive, sale-able objects.
Would you be willing to try another one of Mackenzie Cartwright’s performances?
no
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Irritation at the multiple, unnecessary, horrendous sex scenes and the truly appalling attitudes towards women.

Very good story. :)
4 stars
This was a very good story. I liked Sylvie and Creed, their past is painful but I'm so glad they finally ended up together after getting years stolen from them.
I really liked Sylvie. She had a tough life but made her way and still managed to be a good, kind woman....even with her being a bad ass. Sylvie grew up in a home with an abusive father and a drunk step-mother. She was 6 years old when she sneakily leaves the house to avoid hearing the fighting and ends up meeting Creed. He's 5 years older than her but he has a bad home life too and they become friends. She finally has someone that understands and will be there for her and that makes all the difference for Sylvie.
Through the years Sylvie & Creed grow up and there's a special connection between them. They finally become involved when she's 17 (although he wont go all the way physically until she's 18) and make plans to run away together when she turns 18. Unfortunately things don't work out as planned. Creed doesn't meet Sylvie when they're supposed to leave town and her life becomes hell.
Creed didn't want to disappoint Sylvie and loved her a lot. Sylvie was everything to him and Creed was a man of his word...even that young he was a good man. I can't say why he didn't show up for Sylvie but I will say it wasn't his choice and I felt so bad for him and Sylvie.
Fast forward 16 years and Creed and Sylvie meet back up. He has certain ideas of what her life was after their "split" years before that end up not to be true. She has no clue why he never showed and is very hurt (even after all these years although she tries to bury it). She's very resistant to talking to him but she's been brought in to work with him on a job. She's unwilling to look affected by Creed so she pretends it doesn't affect her and works with him. Fortunately this gives Creed an in and he's able to talk to her (eventually).
Once Sylvie & Creed start sharing what happened with their pasts, things get better between them. They work on re-establishing their relationship and bonding again. While all this is going on they're working the job and dealing with life. I really was happy to see them grow together again. What they lost and went through was so sad it is great to see them building happy times and a future. There are multiple issues to work out but once their back together Sylvie & Creed are solid and I loved seeing it.
This was a very good book. I really enjoyed it and was very happy for Sylvie & Creed. They deserved a happy ending. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I'd recommend this story. Thumbs up! :D

I know this because...
What about Mackenzie Cartwright’s performance did you like?
when you forget about the reader - that's a sign that she's not doing anything distracting. Ms Cartwright's performance was consistent in tone and character differentiation - very pleasant voice. In the future, if she is the narrator of a book, I'd probably check it out.
Any additional comments?
I've been enjoying this author, but there are a few phrases she repeats so often in ALL of her books, I can't believe they aren't edited out. Is she getting paid by the word? How many times the sentence after the character notices something starts with : "I know this because..." It is driving me crazy. It's a redundant phrase, "He was happy. I knew this because he smiled." "He was upset. I know this because he was glaring at me." "He really loved me. I know because he held me." It is maddening., I love her plots and characters. but I just can't tune that out anymore. PLEASE, Miss Ashley - get a RED PEN and ditch that phrase.

Powerfully breathtaking!
Would you listen to Creed again? Why?
I would listen to "Creed" again most definitely! Just as in the first book of this series K.A. pulls you in and won't let you go. This book really gets into what true love, should and can be, found and held onto in the darkest and brightest of hours!
What other book might you compare Creed to and why?
The first in this series "Knight" is as intense and drawing as "Creed." Don't start this series with the sense of a silly love story.....way beyond that!. Both books so far are topping my list of the best ever written and most entertaining to listen to. They draw you into the mechanics of lifetimes filled with power , money , control , loss , and love...unfathomable love.
What about Mackenzie Cartwright’s performance did you like?
She just becomes the people she is portraying. From childhood innocence to adult situations she doesn't let up and can swtch from one to the other without losing the momentum of the story line
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I could not turn this audio down for a break at all. This book is jaw dropping at times , maddening and frustrating at others and compelling enough to make you want to stand up and cheer! No single moment was better than the next
Any additional comments?
I hope the remaining in this series carry on with the same idea of good girl bad guy , bad girl good guy feel to them . Cant wait to listen to to the next one!

Nice addition to the series
At first I was not sure that I would enjoy this book. I really liked Knight, but was hesitant on ordering Creed after reading the publisher's summary. The story of a six-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy didn't appeal to me, and I was not sure how the story was going to unfold. Boy was I wrong, and I ended up really enjoying the story of Sylvie and Creed.

Loved this one
I definitely liked this book, CREED, better than the first book, KNIGHT. I enjoyed the storyline more as well as the performance. I wasn't really ready for it to be finished. I laughed and cry some as well. Since I listen while I travel, it took too long to get through it. I'm certain I'll listen to this one again. Hopefully on a longer trip where there are no interruptions! Great performance by Mackenzie Cartwright!

Kristen Ashley isa wondeful story teller.
Her characters are loveable and complicated. I have read many of her series and have enjoyed them all. With this series and her new books she has become more erotic than romantic. Not sure I am enjoying the eroticia as much as the first stories she has written. I really hope she hasn't completely changed her style. Her new characters and story lines are still worth reading but, I enjoy romance and more vanilla sexual relationships. Oh well, just my opinion.
