Story
It's five months since the nightmare year-six school trip to Crater Lake, and something has gone very wrong in Lance's home town of Straybridge. There's been an explosion at the university, a mysterious test creature is missing and no one is allowed in or out of the town. On top of this, Lance has lost touch with his friends since starting at his new school. And now his mum has been acting strangely since they started decorating the Christmas tree. As he goes door to door trying to reunite his team, Lance realises how bad things have got.

Summary
Who is the mysterious bloodstained man who stops their coach?
Welcome to Crater Lake, the year six school trip where your first day might just be your last....
Maybe it’s the bloodstained man who tries to stop the coach. Maybe it’s the absence of welcoming staff, but something is definitely not right at Crater Lake Activity Centre.
Then, at night, things get much, much stranger...Lance and his friends, Chets, Katja, Big Mak and Adrianne find themselves in a fight for survival and must work together to defeat a swarm of enemies.
But whatever happens they must never, ever, fall asleep!
Critic reviews
"The perfect mix of creepy, gross and funny." (Library Girl and Book Boy)
"Just the right sort of scary and spirited, with plenty of Killick's trademark humour." (Bookseller)

Laugh Out Loud Funny
Bought Crater Lake for my 11 year old son who HATES reading. One week on, I have finished it and my son is half way through and loving it (Ok, I was secretly listening during homeschool!) I enjoyed every minute of Lance and his friends' gruesome but hilarious adventure at Crater Lake. The story has plenty of fun and tension, even for kids like mine, who don't enjoy reading, but it also a nice (but not too in-your-face) message for non-Alpha, quirky kids. A fabulous and original adventure with very strong characters and belly laughs. What's not to love?
Laurence Boxhall makes a wonderful job of reading Crater Lake and giving life to the characters. I found his reading a teeeny bit slow, but at x1.2 speed it was perfect.
