About this listen

Winner of the Comedy Women in Print Prize Shortlisted for The Katie Fforde Debut Romantic Novel Award 2021 ‘Inspired and stylish’ Jenny Eclair ‘Original and witty’ Helen Lederer

When her father falls ill, Billie returns home to the Yorkshire farm which she left behind for life in London. The transition back to country lass from city girl isn’t easy, not least because leaving London means leaving her relationship with Joely Chevalier, just as it was heating up.

And when she gets to Yorkshire, Billie’s shocked to discover the family dairy farm is in dire straits – the last thing Billie expected was a return to the life of a farmer but it isn’t long before she’s up at 5am with manure up to her wellies.

Can Billie must find a way to keep the cows happy, save the farm and save herself…

I really, really enjoyed aspects of this book. The place descriptions and the farming community side is Brilliant! Normalising LGTBQ+ relationships was a bonus. An interesting story

Quirky, funny, great accent - something completely different than other queer stories and not to slushy

Finally a normal gay book with no tragedies

This book starts quite slowly. I didn't think I was going to get into the story. It seemed rather predictive a bit cliche and, in a way it was. However this really fed into the story, calling on stereo types and real life experience creating fantastic and beautifully well rounded caricaturs. The performance was done really well and captured all the cringe, funny and beautiful moments. I felt it really captured the lose of a loved one.

Very well written and thought out

Thank you Kirsty Eyre, this is a brilliant novel, well written and well plotted too. I have always loved cows ever since I was a cow girl myself, so, a love story involving them was just the thing for me. It was made even better by your poetic descriptions, well drawn characters, situations involving almost every emotion and all the of laugh-out-loud moments. The icing-on-the-cake was how beautifully Chloe Massey read the many different voices in this audiobook, never failing to hit the right tone and convey the story perfectly.

A lovely tale, both very funny and very moving
