The author does a great of job of conveying the subtitles and pitfalls of a subject that clearly fascinates him, including examples from conflicts such as the Indonesian experience of combating Islamic separatists in the 1950s, that are little known in the west.
The narrator is OK, but occasionally lapses into monotone for uncomfortably long periods.
