About this listen

A tale of two cities Gloucester and London. A tale of two boys Toby, saved from an African slave ship, and Aaron, the illegitimate son of the heir to a great estate. A tale of fathers and sons Otis, dealing in the vilest trade of all, and his son Meshak, not quite of this world; Sir William Ashbrook, landowner, and Alexander, the son he disinherits...

An epic journey fraught with every danger and excitement, until love triumphs over hate and corruption, from bestselling author Jamila Gavin.

I had to read this book for one of my University assignments, however I found it an extremely difficult read. I then decided to try the audiobook and again could not get into it. Nothing wrong with the performance, just not my kind of story.
FYI, the assignment was very hard to do when the book had no effect on me.

Absolutely brilliantly narrated. Really enjoyed this as part of my degree. Definitely recommend this if you have time!

Wonderful gothic tale but for adults and older children ...a trip to the Foundling Hospital Museum is a worthwhile follow up.

Sad but an extraordinarily evocative story

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The historical background giving much food for thought shed light on how hard and cruel times were, especially for voiceless children. It has left me with the desire to learn about the Coram institution and James Coram. The narration was excellent too.
