The top 10 Sunday Times best seller

A celebration of love in all its forms, featuring conversations with: Philippa Perry on falling in love slowly * Candice Carty-Williams on friendship * Alain de Botton on the psychology of being alone * Dolly Alderton on vulnerability * Emily Nagoski on the science of sex * Diana Evans on parenthood * Lisa Taddeo on the loneliness of loss * Esther Perel on unrealistic expectations * Stephen Grosz on accepting change * Roxane Gay on redefining romance * and many more

Every day we think about love, and every day love eludes us. Maybe you're hoping to begin a new relationship, or in a secret place in your heart, gathering the courage to leave one. Maybe you're in a long-term partnership, wondering how to sustain love through life's many storms. Maybe you're a parent and you want to be a better one; or you've lost a parent, and that loss suddenly dwarves everything else. After years of interviewing people about their relationships, Natasha Lunn learnt that these daily questions about love are often rooted in three bigger ones:

How do we find love? How do we sustain it?

And how do we survive when we lose it?

Interviewing authors and experts as well as drawing on her own experience, Natasha Lunn guides us through the complexities of these three questions. The result is a book to learn from, to lose and find yourself in. The real-life love stories will leave you feeling hopeful and seen, while the insights from experts will transform the way you think about your relationships. Above all, Conversations on Love will remind you that love is fragile, sturdy, mundane, beautiful - a thing always worth fighting for.

Soft, considered and kind

This book is full of understanding and wide explorations on the complexities of love of all kinds. It came along just at the right time in my life, just as I needed a reminder that we are all full of contradictions, that we are human and can live in dualities. The voices are clear to listen to making it an enjoyable listen.

Great book, marred by some poor performances

Perhaps the nature of an audiobook of a series of conversations like this means it will inevitably sound a bit stilted, as the author has edited and condensed her real conversations to the format of a book. Then again, I’m sure that if each of the interlocutors were read by the person in question, the result would be much better, but as it is, only around half of them are. Those that are are very well read, but the rest are often shockingly leaden, almost as if the performer is reading the text at first sight and misses many subtleties of syntax and emphasis. Aren’t these supposed t be professional actors? I desperately missed the very recognisable voices of Alain de Botton and Esther Perel, writers who are often interviewed, so that when I read their books I hear their voices in my head. And with the interlocutors I was less familiar with, I was annoyed by being unsure whether the voice I was listening to actually belonged to the person who wrote the words.. Given the choice again, I would buy the book in print (it would be nice to let the insights and beautiful sentences register in your mind at their own pace, with your own internal narrator), and then seek out podcasts and actual conversations with Natasha and the interviewees online.

Transformative

I had great expectations for this book, based on the blurb and reviews. But it superceded them by far! The range of types of love and stages of life and the various personalities.... I resonated with some, empathised with and learnt from others. I feel this is a book which speaks to everyone. During and after listening to it I wanted to share it with my loved ones. If you are psychologically minded, don't hesitate to take the journey with this book and all the people you will meet in it.

Life gives us Love, Joy & Grief

A book group choice which I chose to listen to rather than read as I wanted to hear the voices of those interviewed. Some were read by actors which was a little disappointing but I still thoroughly enjoyed and learnt a lot about the message of the beauty and pain of love.
