Summary

Pride & Prejudice meets alternate history.

Six years after Napoleon's invasion of England....

Fitzwilliam Darcy is a traitor. He even admits to collaborating with Napoleon's troops. And Elizabeth Bennet despises all traitors.

But she can't make sense of Darcy. He doesn't act like a traitor. He risks his own safety to save young women from the French. And how can she despise a man who loves puppies? Something about him doesn't add up - and she finds him far too attractive.

Then Darcy's carefully constructed world crumbles, and he must entrust his closest-held secret to Elizabeth. To protect that secret, Elizabeth must disappear entirely, leaving her family and Darcy behind, to plunge herself into the dizzying world of fashionable London and the dangers of the Loyalist Resistance. Nothing will ever be the same again.

Darcy is determined to find Elizabeth. Now that she knows the truth about him, there's nothing to keep them apart - nothing, that is, until the day Darcy is forced to choose between his country and the life of the woman he loves....

This is my first audio book, found it difficult at

times because I'm a fast reader but once I got used to the pace I really enjoyed it. Narration was very good.

So surprising!

Was really surprised by this book!
I brought it shall we say unenthusiastically, but I loved it!
We all know that Elizabeth and Darcy together so most P&P variations is just changing the circumstances, this has to be the most original and interesting change of circumstances I have read. I'm not going to say any of the story but I would wholeheartedly recommend getting this variation.
The narrator is excellent by the way.

most enjoyable

I've read the book which I enjoyed very much as i do all books written by this author. I must say I enjoyed the audible narration very much and listened to it in it's entirety in a single day. would highly recommend it and I'm sure it'll will listen to again and again. A very different variation which will grip its listener.

Fabulous Novel

This is a wonderful variation on Pride and Prejudice, showing how England would have suffered under French rule had Napoleon won the war. Spies and subterfuge, Love and loss all for a journey to a hopeful HEA.

The narration was outstanding and I was amazed to discover Elizabeth Klett was not actually British. Lovely character work and great flow. Outstanding.

A very different P&P variation

In the myriad of P&P variations, I think this one is unique in having Darcy and Elizabeth meet while England is under occupation by Napoleon. I really enjoyed it, but I think it should have been shorter. There are several occasions when the story gets bogged down and isn't very interesting, especially during a long stretch where they're separated. Despite it's flaws, its still well worth reading/listening to.
