Summary

The internet has become a crucial part of our life in the 21st century. The technology has been integrated with our means of living. For most of us, our day begins with checking emails, reading or streaming the news on websites, paying bills through our smartphone’s apps, and navigating our bank accounts better now more than ever with online banking.

E-commerce has come a long way. As consumers, we now have the ability to purchase almost anything within our fingertips. We also have the ability to research products, read and provide reviews, and look for the best possible deal. For businesses, this means that they now have the ability for a farther reach. Through e-commerce, small businesses now have a better chance of competing with bigger companies, in getting their products to their target market.

Most schools have incorporated the internet to everyone’s advantage. Aside from online portals where students can access school-related materials, teachers can now also communicate with the parents or guardians through email, bridging more connections instead of missed phone calls.

A good number of universities, colleges, and trade schools are now offering distance education, which is focused on non-traditional students (mostly students who, for any reason, cannot physically attend a class at all times) and classes are done via web-stream and student web portals. The end result ranges from a class credit to a certificate, diploma, a bachelor's degree, or even a post graduate degree.

Perhaps, the most influential contribution the internet has provided is social media. Through it, somehow, the world has been made smaller and people brought closer together. Facebook has reconnected us with our childhood friends, dear relatives we haven’t seen in a while, and it has given most of us a way to be connected to our line of interests through groups. Twitter started with only 160 characters per post, since we have the choice on who to follow, we can curate our timeline and be informed of what interests us. The symbol "#" was more commonly known as the number sign or pound sign. Today’s generation can recognize the sign better as “hashtag”. A symbol that has the ability to catapult a topic or a person to the limelight or, at least, to people’s online radar. Social media has become an industry on its own.

Gone are the days when the internet was viewed to be a luxury or a “craze that will fade away”. The technology has become so integrated with our lives that the United Nations made a declaration on 2011 that internet access as an important component of a basic human right.

Computer networking is an essential framework for the internet to work for most of us. The tech term can be overwhelming for some, but it exists in almost all homes, offices, businesses, and establishments that are connected to the internet.

In this audiobook, we will discuss the most basic principles behind computer networking without the complexities of technical jargon (technical terms will be explained). Easy explanations will be provided to expound on the technical concepts.

This book is for anyone who wants an introductory course on computer networking, which is basically what is needed if you want to create a simple home network or office computer network.
