I have had a lot of dogs over my lifetime but my son wanted a dog and he was old enough that I could empower him with the responsibilities of raising the dog. He asked me if we could get books to help him learn but he is dyslexic so having an audio book has been helpful. We have been listening to the book over the last several days and taking note of the various topics. It was great listening together because it helped to spark conversation between us and I feel he is much better prepared for raising a puppy. The book gives practical guidance and not just fluff that is not actual reality. I like that the author even reviews what the first 24hrs will be like with the dog because it is a very impactful time and you need to be prepared.

My son liked listening to the most common mistakes because he is kind of a perfectionist so he wanted to be prepared and not make mistakes and therefore raise the perfect dog. We shall see what the dog of his dreams does with the training but I am very excited that this book was easy enough for him to understand and we both took away quite a bit of information that will help us be successful.

We have a delightful elderly neighbor whose grandchild bought her a puppy for Christmas!!?? She has been struggling to train and care for this bundle of energy and joy (and we have spent considerable time/energy helping her - grandchild lives 90 miles away??!!). We shared this book with her and she is SO energized and has all sorts of new ideas to deal with all the various aspects of this new adventure. Over the fence yesterday she said the potty training chapter is working wonders!! Thanks for helping our neighbor (and lightening our load). Highly recommend for first-time owners.

I've watched about 75 dogs over the last 10 years. Several were puppies. I like to teach dogs new words, commands, etc. Even though I have some experience, this book gave me some great new tips about how to teach dogs new behaviors in a way the dog will understand very clearly. There are also critical potty-training tips in this book every dog owner NEEDS to hear before attempting training. I think this audible should also be a pre-requisite for anyone thinking of adding a puppy to the family. Dogs are an immense responsibility and this audiobook outlines all of the obligations include time and money that will need to be spent.
