About this listen

Next to the death of a loved one, the ending of a relationship is the most painful experience most people will ever go through. Coming Apart is a first aid kit for getting through the ending. It is a tool that will enable you to live through the end of your relationship with your self-esteem intact.

Originally published in 1987 and continuously in print since then, Coming Apart has been an important resource for hundreds of thousands of people experiencing the pain and stress of a breakup. This new edition features a foreword by Katherine Woodward Thomas, author of Conscious Uncoupling.

Daphne Rose Kingma, the undisputed expert on matters of the heart, explores the critical facets of relationship breakdowns:

  • Love myths: why we are really in relationships
  • The life span of love
  • How to get through the ending
  • How to create a personal workbook for finding resolution

Time does a lot to heal our broken hearts, but really understanding what transpired in each of our relationships is what allows us to finally let go and move on.

Really helping with the separation I am going through. Would recommend. Halfway through, but makes a lot of sense

Really helpful, insightful, I wish I had listened to it sooner. Exercises useful too as it acknowledged the many complexities of our feelings.

Parts of this book were really helpful to help me come to terms with things and put a different spin on the situation.

I liked the different stories and insights. I saw myself…why I tried to hang on… how I was really scared… not in love. I realized I am no different. I loved an imaginary person, not the woman who showed up everyday physically and mentally attached to her daddy. I was her unfinished business and what I was trying to recreate was the relationship of my parents…this book helped me understand. Now I can go forward knowing it wasn’t just me, although I played a part, I was wounded too.

If you go to counseling, it’s over… you just don’t know how to say it…
