About this listen

It's a hot, hot night. Too hot to be making love, unless your romance is young, like Sherry's and Duane's. It's their first time, and the anticipation is killing. There's just one problem: they have no condoms. Of course, they could wait until tomorrow.

Duane remembers the Speed-D-Mart. In the usual circumstances, it's not a place anyone would want to visit at night. But these aren't usual circumstances. Duane throws on his clothes: the store is just 10 minutes down the block.

Now Sherry is waiting. Ten minutes has gone, so has 20. She's not worried. What's another few minutes? Then she hears the noise from down the street. It might be a door slamming. It might be the backfire of a car. But Sherry thinks it sounds mostly like a gunshot.

The style is exactly what Laymon is known for. The explicit detail of the horror is there, the sexual tension and yes, the gore and brutality too, but that's what the long dead Laymon is known for.

Good stuff for the fans.

Well read. Typical Laymon.

Had me hooked from the very first word spoken. Can't wait for the next one

Excellent book.

Have read this before and thought it good enough to rebuy on Audible.
It's unabridged so no complaints there, everything was present and correct.

I had only ONE gripe with the storytelling...
One of the lead characters was a female and the narrators' attempt at giving her a "voice" was pretty bad. Yes, I know the narrator was a guy so we can't expect miracles but it sounded more like someone doing a bad impression of a little girl. it's difficult to explain. Sufficient to say Laymon did write some pretty heavy stuff and the Narrator did his best.
Storytelling = 9/10
Male Voices = 7/10 (he chose to portay most of the males as quite dorky)
Female Voices = 2/10

Not quite right.

I enjoyed the book and understand the narrator has to distinguish male and female so coped with the girl voice but I was not rooting for the main character as I should have been. I thought some of the decisions were stupid but hey it gave Laymon an excuse for a sick and twisted spectacular. I have worded carefully so as to not spoil anything. Enjoyable read.

Good book but....
