Summary

The world's worst air disaster happened more than 40 years ago on a remote Atlantic Ocean island, when two fully loaded 747 passenger jets collided after a horrendous series of human errors.

One of the jets, KLM Flight 4805, was traveling more than 150 miles an hour and was within seconds of lifting off when it crashed into Pan Am Flight 1736 taxiing in its path. The loss of lives was staggering - 583 dead. The crash happened after a lengthy series of major and minor human errors. In the intervening years, has aviation advanced to the point that such a disaster can't happen again?

In this riveting account, written from the perspective of the passengers in the cabin as well as the crew members in the cockpits, Jon Ziomek explains how this largely forgotten accident took place - and what has happened since to reduce the possibility of another such catastrophe.

Great book

Great book, I have a terrible morbid fascination with all things aviation disaster related so this was right up my street. Very in depth and also the descriptions of actual people on the plane was very heart wrenching. Their lives afterwards. Very comprehensive and enjoyable in a macabre kind of way

Fascinating

Heartbreaking and fascinating. A deep dive into the hows, the whys and the whos of the worst air crash in history.

By the end I felt I knew these people.

Well narrated too.

Human side of a disaster

I've watched and read many things on this particular plane crash
This book offers so much more than cold facts , it offers real insight to how the people involved were affected by this crash. Have to admit I cried a few times, it was beautifully and poignantly written

Wooohh, what an insight to a tragedy

So much fascinating background information to this huge accident, really has opened my eyes to the personal problems that the survivors faced and indeed continue to face and the logistics in resolving all the issues.

Fascinating

This book is not just an investigation of the physical crash but the emotion od actual passengers before and after the cataclysmic event.
