About this listen

The very first Logan McRae novel in the No.1 bestselling crime series from Stuart MacBride.

DS Logan McRae and the police in Aberdeen hunt a child killer who stalks the frozen streets.

Winter in Aberdeen: murder, mayhem and terrible weather…

It’s DS Logan McRae’s first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn’t get much worse. Three-year-old David Reid’s body is discovered in a ditch: strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. And he’s only the first. There’s a serial killer stalking the Granite City and the local media are baying for blood.

Soon the dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die. And if Logan isn’t careful, he could end up joining them.

At the stat I thought it would be too gruesome for me as child or animal cruelty is a subject I avoid. But Stuart Mac Brides tale expertly narrated but the smooth voice of John Sessions gently took the listener from one vile, wicked find and quickly showed us where there was a crack in the plot where DC Logan could find hope and move the story forward.
I am looking forward to listening to his other books.

the first logan macrae story

Gritty and sickening story line but the way the author draws you in is genius.
As you listen, you could almost be watching what is being read as it is so vividly described. It sets your emotions on edge as the plot unfolds and you get involved with the characters, identify with the fear, frustration, horror and panic that they experience as the investigations progress.
Couldn't stop listening and can't wait to get started on the next one.

I read this book, as a book, years ago and have just listened to it again on audio.

It is still a good story that introduces a multitude of characters who grow in subsequent books.

It was fun to hear it again.

A good introduction to the series

Very good story bit graphic in some details, but likeable police characters and very well read.

Good but quite gritty
