About this listen

The night that Flight 229 was blown apart upon landing at Washington's Dulles Airport—killing almost 400 passengers aboard—James Bond embarked on a mission that would become an obsession. Who was responsible for destroying the British-owned aircraft? Was it a straightforward act of terrorism, an assassination aimed at only one person, or a move to put the airline out of business? The search for answers has a personal meaning: Bond' s former lover and old friend, the Principessa Sukie Tempesta, is listed as one of the ill-fated passengers.

In this white-knuckle 007 thriller, master spy James Bond undertakes the most complex and demanding assignment of his career. Across continents and through ever-changing labyrinths of evil, Bond follows the traces of clues to an organization more deadly than any terrorist army. What Bond finds could very well spell his own last days.

What made the experience of listening to James Bond in Cold Fall the most enjoyable?

This is a 1990's James Bond and despite still being formulaic it was easier to relate to than previous John Gardner 007 outings. The threat was more real and the set-up true to the James Bond heritage.

Would you be willing to try another book from John Gardner? Why or why not?

I have listened to other John Gardner James Bond novels and don't think I'll be tempted to try any more.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The baddies hideaway in Italy was a satisfying scene.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Again, I did listen to it in one go as it was on whilst travelling.

Cold Killer

a simplistic story with a weak plot. badly narrated. cliched characters. a waste of a token.

Poor

A poor presentation of a somewhat cliched and thin Bond-alike story. Ian Fleming it sure ain’t. The narration grated and never quite convinced leaving me longing for it to end. I gave it a second chance but couldn’t take a full second listening. Probably best avoided if you enjoy Bond at its best.

Disappointing

This was the worst audible title I've listened to. Jumped from one place to another with very little explanation

really badly abridged
