The world is not breaking…it is unraveling.

A year after surviving the Thornwood campaign, Cael and Task Force Aegis have become stronger, sharper, and more united than ever. But strength means little when the very foundation of reality begins to fail.

When the ancient Waystone Compass awakens, it delivers a chilling warning: a Keystone—the hidden pillar holding the world together—is collapsing deep within the Dwarven Underkingdom.

Ninety-seven days.

That's all the time they have before its destruction triggers a chain reaction that could tear the world apart.

As Cael leads his team south into a kingdom sealed by politics, guarded by secrets, and built upon something far older than history, the mission becomes more than survival. It becomes a race against corruption, betrayal, and a truth buried beneath stone and fire.

Because the deeper they go…the clearer it becomes:

The enemy isn't just waiting in the shadows.

It may already be part of the system itself.

And Cael—marked by a power he barely understands—may be the key to saving everything…or the reason it all falls apart.

This book dives deep into fantasy. It’s like a mix of fantasy and adventure. The Group at 3 months to try to save the world before it it’s destroyed. The time is ticking and they are trying to figure out the code. I would highly recommend this book to those that enjoy fantasy fiction. Definitely a good listen. Will they save the world?

I really enjoyed this in audio form. It’s fast paced and a great adventure story. I really enjoyed the twists in the story and was enjoyed the character development from the last book to this one. The narration was great for this one and great overall storyline. I would recommend! I listened to this while working and it helped the work day go by quick!

Great sci-fi read!

I love the mix of old-school industrial grit and futuristic tech. The pacing is relentless; it felt like I was running right alongside the characters from the first chapter. If you liked the mystery of the first book, you’re going to love how the 'Embers' start to catch fire in this one. The author makes the two relatable but keeps it interesting. I don't like to give spoilers in my reviews, so I won't say what is happening. There are lots of twists in it though. Even ones we don't see sound interesting and unique in their own ways from the way they're described and I look forward to potentially seeing them in the future, or others that haven't been mentioned. The new characters introduced in this book are quality editions, even the ones you're supposed to hate. Old characters make a return to be better fleshed out, and the new ones fit right in with the established crew. Should be interesting to see how the new and returning characters change in the next book. I’m totally in love with the story and I feel like the characters are friends.

Embers and Engines is an entertaining continuation of the Codebreaker Chronicles. The combination of fantasy, magic, and LitRPG elements makes the story feel fast-paced and immersive, while the larger threat to the world adds plenty of tension.

I enjoyed the sense of adventure and the way the story continues to build on the characters and world from the first book. There are some moments where the pacing slows down a little, and a few parts could have been tighter, but overall the story kept me interested.

Ken Reilly’s narration also works well for the audiobook and helps keep the long runtime engaging.

Overall, a fun choice for LitRPG and progression-fantasy fans.

Codebreaker 2: Embers and Engines is an exciting continuation that pulled me right back into the world of the Codebreaker Chronicles. I really enjoyed the combination of action, adventure, and LitRPG elements, which kept the story moving at a great pace. The characters continue to develop in interesting ways, and the audiobook narration made the experience even more immersive. Overall, this was a fun and engaging listen, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where the series goes next!
