About this listen

The broodiest goalkeeper in the Premier League meets his match in a radiant knitting influencer in this sexy grumpy/sunshine sports romance by best-selling author duo Kels & Denise Stone.

CAMERON HASTINGS:

I was running from the paparazzi when I crashed into a mystery girl with bright eyes and lavender hair.

All it took was a smile from her, and I was a goner.

We agreed to one night. No strings. No real names.

So imagine my surprise when I discover she’s moving across the hall from me—in another country.

But I don’t have time for distractions, especially after last season.

It doesn’t matter that I’m the best of the best, the only American keeper in the Premier League. I need to prove myself to my new team. I need to give them everything so we have a shot at winning the championship.

But I have a problem.

It was supposed to be one night. But I want more....

DAPHNE QUINN:

I blame it on my Yes Year: finally stepping out of my comfort zone, moving to London, and...Him.

The man I spent that magical evening with. But this version of him, the guy who wears all black and a matching scowl, is nothing like the man I remember.

I do my best to avoid him, instead focusing on creating a real-world safe space for my online knitting community and collecting as many experiences as I can during my stint abroad.

But one neighborly run-in leads to another, and suddenly, I’m catching glimpses of him again.

For the first time in my life, I feel confident enough to play by my own rules. To live my life on my own terms, bullies be damned.

But how do I play to win when I’m facing down a man who protects his heart at all costs?

Close Knit is the first book in The Hastings series, a collection of interconnected standalone sports romances about the Hastings siblings, scions of sports royalty.

Close Knit is book 1 in The Hastings series, I absolutely loved and devoured it. Right from the start I fell in love with both MC’s. I loved how they met, their instant connection and just how supportive of each other they were. This book just feels like a warm hug and just gave me a cozy comforting feeling throughout. I loved how well the authors blended the mix of serious topics and coziness of the story. The mental health rep in this book is TOP TIER, both for the FMC & MMC. I loved how it was normalized. They showed how differently it can affect each and every person, how everyone deals differently. Also, the normalization of therapy and medication to assist in mental health healing, absolutely added the cherry on top!

Daphne is such a beautiful FMC she is such a good person with amazing values. She's such a ray of sunshine and the way she comes out of her shell and finds herself was absolutely outstanding. Cameron is the grumpiest of the grumps, but the character growth he experiences in this book was phenomenal. The way he came to peace with everything and learnt to have healthy relationships again both with Daphne & his teammates. I really connected with Daphne and related to her in regards to the bullying, it just made me want to hug her and tell her that everything would be alright. The characters truly felt real, human with realistic reactions and emotions.

Overall, I cannot recommend this story enough if you are someone that loves real feeling characters and stories. A story that has amazing mental health representation and that just normalizes it and makes you feel seen. Absolutely perfect!

🎧 The narration by CJ Bloom & Jason Clarke was perfection. I love these 2 and them together was just an explosion in my ears. They played their characters amazingly, the emotions were truly felt and the way they delivered the story was chef's kiss. I just love how well their voices blended together, how they made me so absorbed in the story.

Audiobook Review:
Narrated by Jason Clarke & CJ Bloom.
This is the 1st book in the Hastings Siblings story. Jason had a hard job of being raw and emotion with his character, Cameron. Both of them were fantastic with their voices.
Cameron is the eldest and a professional Football (⚽) Goalkeeper. He was doing fantastic and has come to the UK to play in the Premiership.
Daphne was awesome character and I loved that she was quirky too. She had purple hair and was a social media knitting influencer! See quirky but the absolute best. She was sunshine and Cameron was the grump.
My favourite part was when thy called each other by the name they gave when they 1st met 'Goose' and 'Duck'.
Cameron and Daphne meet accidentally when he was hiding from media. This led to a night they will never forget.
Months later Daphne is in the UK and her neighbour is Cam. But she doesn't get the happy response instead he seems to despise her.
Duck is so amazing, she doesn't ler this get to her and continues to be her amazing self..
I will leave it at that and will tell you their journey is very hard but rewarding.
Check TW as it is heavy on depression, anxiety, bullying and more.
My heart broke for them both and I felt their pain. I do feel Cam took a very long time to seek proper help and we kept repeating his hot and cold behaviour.
His teammates were fantastic, the found family feeling, banter and support. This story had it all, funny, heartbreaking, love, spice and so much more.
As hard it was at times, the ending was worth it.
Also I really enjoyed this because I'm a super premiership fan and I recognised all the play and rules.

I actually began my journey with the Hastings family by reading Highest Point — Book 3 — after receiving it as an ARC. From the moment I met Alec Hastings and fell into Kels and Denise Stone’s beautiful writing, I knew I needed to return to the beginning. I wanted more of this family, more of their hearts, more of their love.

The Hastings feel like the Bridgerton siblings gently reimagined through the lens of sports romance — charming, passionate, tightly bonded, and so easy to adore.

This book follows Cameron, the third sibling, a professional goalie seeking a fresh start in the Premier League, and Daphne Quinn, a knitting influencer whose heart feels soft and warm, like something lovingly handmade.

Cameron is carrying the weight of betrayal from a former teammate and is desperate for a clean slate as he moves to London. Daphne, who has quietly battled anxiety her whole life, decides on her birthday to embark on a “yes year” — a brave promise to step outside her comfort zone.

Their story begins with a chance meeting in a bar, where neither knows who the other is. What follows is a single, magical night — one that lingers long after dawn.

Months later, Daphne moves to London as part of her yes year… only to discover that her new neighbors are none other than Cameron’s team. Fate clearly wasn’t done with them.

This book pulses with heartbreak, healing, and tender portrayals of mental health. The authors captured both Cameron’s and Daphne’s emotional journeys with such sincerity. I loved watching Cameron soften in Daphne’s light, and seeing Daphne bloom with Cameron’s encouragement.

And “drunk Daphne”? Absolutely hilarious — and impossibly endearing.

The narrators were brilliant, and now I can’t wait to dive into On Guard, Book 2 in the Hastings series.

The Hastings series is addictive

“Your past isn’t your identity. Not really. It’s the steps you take after, that’s where you truly find yourself”. Mental health, abuse, pressure in elite sports, bullying but also friendship, family, dreams and so much makes Daphne and Cameron’s love story a really good one. And the best part, is the audiobook with brilliant C. J. Bloom and Jason Clarke and their magic to bring to life funny moments, emotional moments but also sad and tough ones. Thanks to Valentine PR audio for the ALC. this is my honest review

Wow. I had such high expectations for this book, but apparently, they still weren't high enough. This book shot it right through the roof, I loved it so so much. This felt so realistic to me. I loved every single thing about this story, from tropes to the characters, to the storyline and the writing style. These authors definitely have a new fan! I just don't have enough words to express my love for this book well enough, I definitely recommend everyone pick it up themselves, because it is so worth it! The narrators also did a great job with giving these characters their voice and I loved them!
