Critic reviews

"The plot is fantastic and so original! Twists, turns, mysterious, haunting moments. It had my pulse facing, heart pounding tears rolling down my face and smiling with excitement.” (Dark Readers)

Love the book but the voiceovers did distract from it a bit. Whilst Lind has a lovely speaking voice when using her own accent and dialect her accents and voice work left me cold.
If you cannot convincingly deliver an accent then it is better to read without one

Great story but some small drawbacks

Like every Cassandra Clare book I have read, this has believable characters and an absorbing plot. The narrative is fast paced with plenty of plot twists. I personally prefer the performance to either be a full cast or a single reader. That having been said, Heather Lind and Ed Westwick both performed well and I'd have been happy if either of them had performed the whole book alone. I enjoyed this and would happily recommend it to anyone. a
Although it is aimed at a young adult audience there is plenty to satisfy older readers too.

A galloping good read.

I have taken it upon myself to read first the first 3 books in the Mortal Instruments, then move onto Infernal Devices. (This is my listening order, TBC).

This second book, it’s like a slap and a hug and a kiss. All at once. It has made me feel, made me question, made me smile, and made me slightly mad. It’s such a beautiful bridge for a fantasy book.

I look forward to finishing the final book, and then move on to the rest of the modern world of the Shadowhunter novels.

Beautiful.

Gut wrenching. Abundant. Perplexed. Happy.

The story, performances and characters of this book are all incredible. The story can be very moving and the performances add so much depth to the characters. I’m looking forward to listening to book 3.

The book is marvellous. I read all three of the Infernal Devices back to back when they were first published.

It’s a treat to listen to the books on audible however I found Ed Hardwick’s characterisation of Will and Benedict Lightwood off putting.

The other narrator was wonderful, interesting ; charming and read with real understanding of the books characters.

Marvellous book
