About this listen

When Charles Morris is forced into retirement, the old multinational company CEO has to accept that it is all over. The days of running his financial empire have finally come to an end. All because of a stupid heart attack. Now what is there for him to do but to curl up in a corner and die?

While Charles is attending a fundraiser, however, something happens and he's transported into a strange medieval world where magic is real and legendary heroes coexist with mythical monsters.

Follow Charles as he takes on the challenge of a lifetime. Follow him as he builds roads and shops, hires heroes, develops alliances with neighboring villages...but also fights terrible foes while struggling to maintain the Happiness and Satisfaction levels of his village in the positives.

its a worse version of legend of the arch magus. other than what most other people have said about this book already, such as the simple characters and plot and lack of tension throughout, my main gripe with it is that the world feels fake, the non-champions feel like actual npc's who don't really think for themselves. the book shows us that they do technically think for themselves and have lives outside of what the mc orders them to do, but it just doesn't feel like that with how its written. overall tho its inoffensive, there is nothing that i really dislike about the book, but there are few things to really like about it too, the characters aren't super deep the world is decently well made but lacks that real spice to draw you in.

inoffensive but lacks depth

Now the reviews of this title tend to be a bit misleading. This book was far more interesting than I expected and for it being a free listen, it's definetly worth a try. There is no action (in the combat sense at least) but the story is fairly interesting and the main character is pretty solid. This is a very light book but does a decent job at pulling you into the story.
This book is not for the action junkies out there. But if you have a thing for stories such as the All Trades series, it's absolutely worth a listen.
Halligers does a great job narrating here, as he always does.
As I'm currently in search of a big series to binge, I will definitely be picking the next book up.

One of the better freebies on Audible.

I'll be honest for a free book I wasn't sure what to expect especially after some reviews were 50/50 on it especially on Goodreads. However this is definitely a solid slow burn and is in a way very relatable as in someone reinventing themselves and finding purpose. The flow of the story was a solid curve and dipped and picked up where you expected and played with world building game tropes that felt comfortable, familiar and yet fresh. My only qualm with the book was it's length and the fact that it sped through events a tad to quickly that sometimes took you out of the flow but it was quick enough to get back in. will definitely be trying the rest of the series out

a nice solid refreshing slow burn

This is a very light book. The world is simplistic. Every problem is resolved immediately. Every time the MC has a surplus the next place he visits wants to buy the commodity for good money. There is a gold system but he just accumulates it like crazy. To be honest this is like a story of someone playing a tutorial BUT it is fairly entertaining and was nice to listen to in the background. The narration was good.

The definition of easy listening

Excellent take on a litrpg adventure, with a solid mc and superb narration.

I even listened to it all in one sitting! Turns out a pragmatic approach from the mc in a book can get you in the right mood to do some productive work yourself, and just like that time flew by and I was done.

Can't wait for the next entry. Hoping some side characters become a larger part of it with perhaps more world descriptions to paint a more vivid picture. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say!

Absolutely fantastic
