Summary

The first instalment of The Lunar Chronicles - a futuristic reenvisioning of Cinderella in which Cinder is a cyborg mechanic.

A forbidden romance. A deadly plague. Earth's fate hinges on one girl....

Cinder, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation.

Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future.

This is not the fairy tale you remember. But it's one you won't forget.

Good but...

The reading of this book is amazing. The story on the whole is good but at times they fixate on weird point and it comes up again and again. It is a perfect book for a teenager or an easy listen. Not bad but with a bit more could have been great. Still worth a listen.

Great fun!

Such a fun story! A great sci fi twist on a familiar tale.

To begin with I found the narrator's voice a bit grating but I got used to it quickly and she actually gave a great performance.

Very exciting and I can't wait to hear more.

Fun Sci fi retelling of the Cinderella fairytale

I'm not usually into science fiction but I do love fairytale retellings so I wanted to give The Lunar Chronicles a try as they're hugely popular among YA readers online. I did enjoy the new twist on the old story, it's completely different to any other retelling I've ever come across, so it was fun to see where it differed and what was the same as the original. I'd recommend this book if you love fairytales and modern retellings, the Sci fi elements aren't too difficult to pick up even if you never read the genre, and the world building is first class. I'm looking forward to book two.

Predictable but fun

For a long time I wasn’t keen on reading this book (as I’m not a sci-fi fan) but I had read so many good reviews on the Lunar Chronicles that I decided to give it a try. At first the book was hard to get into but after 2 hours of listening, I was sold. The narrator did an amazing job with the characters especially Iko. I really liked the protagonist “Cinder” and root for her enough to follow her story in the sequel.

new version

I love this version of Cinderella. I was hesitant to get it due to I'm not the biggest fan of Cinderella. But this book is worth buying!
