Summary

So, you’ve decided to learn Chinese. Now what?

One of the toughest languages to learn, it’s never been easy to find story material in Chinese.… However, we’ve created a book that will change all of that.

Language learning isn’t just about lessons or practice – it’s about consistency. You may have found the best teacher in town or the most incredible learning app around, but if you don’t put all of that knowledge to practice, you’ll soon forget everything you’ve obtained. This is why being engaged with interesting material can be so essential for somebody wishing to learn a new language.

Therefore, in this book, we have compiled 20 easy-to-follow, compelling, and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful Chinese (Mandarin) tongue.

How Chinese Short Stories for Beginners works:

  • Each chapter possesses a funny, interesting and/or thought-provoking story based on real-life situations, allowing you to learn a bit more about the Chinese culture.
  • Having trouble understanding Chinese? No problem – apart from the English translation, we’ve also provided you with the Pinyin romanization of the Chinese language, so that you never have trouble understanding Chinese again!
  • The summaries follow a synopsis in Chinese and in English of what you just heard, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about. Use them if you’re having trouble.
  • At the end of those summaries, you’ll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson, as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance! Again, Pinyin romanization is included to make things super easy for you!
  • Finally, you’ll be provided with a set of tricky questions in Chinese, allowing you the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Whether it’s true or false, or if you’re doing the single answer questions, don’t worry if you don’t know the answer to any — we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating!

We want you to feel comfortable while learning the tongue; after all, no language should be a barrier for you to travel around the world and expand your social circles!

So look no further! Pick up your copy of Chinese Short Stories for Beginners and level up your Chinese, right now!

Excellent for helping new chinese learners!

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I enjoyed the pdf that goes along with it because I'm a visual learner. The voices are clear and the stories are helpful. Looking forward to relistening to them all!

For Advanced Beginners and Intermediate Learners

This book is helpful for advanced beginners and intermediate learners, but would most likely be too overwhelming for absolute and intermediate beginners, unless you also carefully follow along with the PDF. I'm a HSK4 intermediate learner and listened to the stories while driving. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I would learn much from a "beginner's book." As soon as I heard the title of Chapter 1, however, I realized that there was some advanced vocabulary. I later came to the conclusion, that it's OK to not know all the words and instead to be selective around which words you want to learn. Initially I also thought that this book would contain the same 20 stories translated from another language, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that there were unique Chinese cultural stories. I would categorize the other stories as either plot-driven stories or inspirational/food-for-thought. I wanted to skip those inspirational stories, but now realize that such stories introduce me to different vocabulary. The format of each chapter is: story in Chinese, story in Chinese and English, summary, questions (with answers), and vocabulary. The repetition helps with listening comprehension, and the audio is generally clear, although there are some words that could be better translated. Overall, excellent learning tool, especially if you make supplementary flashcards.

I love this book and finally found it.

I finally found this book and it didn’t disappoint. I have learned so much vocabulary from this book that I will have no problem remembering. The stories will keep your attention and will help you read and understand characters and pinyin. Can’t wait to show my friends what I have learned.

Great for increasing useful vocabulary

I just got this audiobook today and have already listened to 3 of the stories. I can see that this will be a great way to help me remember vocabulary- something I’ve been struggling with. The stories are interesting and memorable. They are short enough not to be overwhelming. Of immense value is the pdf that accompanies the book. No need for the additional expense to buy the kindle copy or hard copy. This is something that has always annoyed me with other audiobooks. The one criticism I have so far is that this seems to be higher than a beginner level. I am currently working through the Standard Course HSK 3 level and the language and vocabulary in this audiobook seems much higher than beginner to me.
