About this listen

Detective Reggie Brown has put in 30 years with the Chicago PD, nearly half of those in homicide. So far I have enjoyed all the city murder books I have listened to. It may take some time getting used to this style of writing, but once that has passed I started enjoying the series. Dalglish gives a realistic description of the day to day routine of a homicide detective, which includes some of of the mundane details of the job. This book still is entertaining and has a fair amount of suspense. The author finds original ways to keep the reader guessing, so there is always pleasant surprises. I really enjoy the description of the cities, the streets, restaurants, etc as well as the interactions between the various characters. This book has a feel good atmosphere and is well suited for the long bus drive or flight. If one is looking for a book that focuses more on the mystery and less on the day to day life of a detective, then I would go for something else but if one does not mind a little of both then this series is worth looking into.
