About this listen
What do you do when the doctor says you could die at any moment? Well...after you’ve made a cup of tea, of course.
Nathan James is young, successful and has the world at his feet. Unfortunately, he’s also about to die - which ruins things somewhat. And now he’s staring imminent death in the face, Nathan is having to rethink some of his life choices very hard.
This means embarking on a hectic journey of self-discovery that includes, amongst other things, losing his dignity to an inescapable bean bag, suffering screaming nightmares about a monstrous potato, and getting up close and very personal with a bipolar donkey.
All of which is fine, but then Nathan falls in love with a charming girl called Alison, which is a really stupid thing to do. Because how can you give your heart to someone when it might be about to stop?
From Nick Spalding, the bestselling author of Fat Chance, Bricking It and Mad Love, comes a comedy about dying - which is easy - and living, which is most certainly not.

This is an uplifting story of a young man discovering the true meaning of happiness. Each chapter is another exciting and hilarious story of his encounters along his journey with coming to tears with his diagnosis. I would very much recommend this story to anybody who wants something light-hearted and funny but with depth meaning.
absolutely brilliant 👏

Where does Checking Out rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
its not my favourite nick spalding but i still very much enjoyed itWhat did you like best about this story?
it was a great story with lots of unpredictable twists and turnsWhat does Simon Mattacks bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
his soft tones are a joy with excellent rhythm that made it a very easy listenWas there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
no, i didn't find it a moving book nor a laugh out loud like some of nicks others but the story didn't lend its self to laugh out loud material,Any additional comments?
the last chapter disappointing, i was left wanting more, i even think there is a sequel to be had for this story. i want to know more.... what happened next, tell me more about hiss cousin and her family. there was much more that could be explored. It did jump a little in places and a smoother transition would have helped the flow a little better but that is i was being super critical. As i say i did enjoy this book overall.great story and left me wanting more
