Summary

Chasing Lions is an empowering and captivating memoir. It shows that a lack of self-confidence doesn't have to stop you from living the life you want and finding the love you deserve.

When Amanda is mugged by a gang of schoolkids, she knows things have to change. She decides to go in search of her inner lion. It proves to be a bruising experience both physically and mentally. But she perseveres, and surprises herself by becoming a truck-driving tour leader in the bohemian and male-dominated world of overland expeditions.

Over three years and 55,000 miles, Amanda faces her feelings of inadequacy as she strives to discover her roar. On her journey, she watches the moon rise over the Serengeti and the sun set behind Egypt's pyramids, she rafts with Zambezi river gods and communes with gorillas, she faces lions in the wild, has her fortune told by a crab sorcerer...and meets her soul mate?

Chasing Lions is a compelling tale of inner transformation through immersion in the natural world and being open to the rich diversity of life. Amanda's story encourages us to live life to the full, be brave, and choose love.

A wonderful adventure story

This book too me back to my own adventures in Africa around a similar time. I wish I had such detailed memories but listening to Amanda’s adventures refreshed my own. She has succeeded in writing a vivid & honest account of a very special world & moment in time and it makes wonderful listening.

Much more than a just travelogue...

As a lover of travel and adventure this book caught my eye and as a travelogue it is fascinating... BUT it is so much more than that. Many people struggle with self-confidence and self-belief, with feeling that we aren't special or remarkable. If so this is you then this book will inspire you. If you want to change your life, believe in yourself and what you are capable of, then you should read/listen to this. The auto-biographical travelogue is an adventure in its own right, This adventure wraps around a journey of self-discovery and a timeless love story. It will transport you to worlds and places you may only have dreamt of, though probably never been to or dared to go to. It will make you smile, sometimes laugh out loud. Make you cry or at least well up sometimes too, but also stimulate your wanderlust and fill you with wonder as the author takes on the challenges thrown at her.

The narration, by the author herself, increases the connection between what she was feeling and experiencing at the time, as she recounts her adventures to find her 'inner lion'. I just wanted to keep listening and didn't want it to end.

Didn't really grab me

OK book. Didn't really grab me. Travel storyline was interesting but love storyline I found a bit annoying and detracted from overall experience.
