Summary

I met Sarah Kate Erickson when I was 21 years old. I was lucky enough to keep her for seven years before a tragic accident stole her from me. She didn't die, but sometimes I think it would have been easier if she had. I lived in a haze for those four years after the accident. Catering to her every need, even though she hated the very sight of my face. I tried to hold on to her and the future that we were supposed to build together. But you can't hold on to someone that doesn't exist anymore. It wasn't until I met Jesse Addison, a barista at the local coffee shop, that I realized I didn't just lose Sarah that tragic night; I lost myself as well.

The "heroine" was weak throughout, hard to finish.

I like strong leading ladies and this one was far from it, glad this book is over and I can move on. I really hope the next book of the series is better than this one. Main characters should be likable and relatable, unfortunately this didn't have that. #underwhelmed reader

Captivating story

Brett losses his wife the night that she and her best friend are involved in a horrific car crash that takes the life of the best friend and takes his wife's life as they knew it. Brett has been fighting to stand by his wife for 4 years despite the fact that she does not want to be married to him anymore. Brett meets Jesse who helps him find a second chance at love so he can finally let go of his wife to find his happily ever after. The book was hard to put down, it kept me enthralled at all times!. I highly recommend this story.

Great story + fantastic narrators = big win

Wow. What a story and so well told! I can't wait to read more from this author.

Because I listened to the audiobook narrated by Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers, a couple of sections near the end just didn't translate well. I wasn't sure what was going on and I think reading it in print would have been better. However, these narrators were just fabulous and if that's the trade-off, I'll take it.

This story really did have it all and I couldn't put it down. Romance, tragedy, more romance, screwed up people, more romance, drama, happy ending. I'm so glad I found this - thanks Audible!

absolutely beautiful story

This was one of my favorite books ever. I loved all of the characters except Sarah, of course. This was a beautifully written story with so much depth and meaning that no review I write could do it justice. Just read it or listen to the audio version which is what I did. Phenomenal!!

Worth your time

I had this book sitting there for a while I thought it was going to be really sad so I put it off.
I'm glad I finally got around to to. It was sad but the story was quite different to what I was expecting and I enjoyed a story line I've not read before. It was witty, funny at times and yes sad. I really enjoyed the characters and was engaged in their lives. It was a feel good, feel sad book. Very enjoyable.

Wouldn't change a thing

This book is everything. The performance is everything. I cried happy tears, sad tears, frightened tears, overwhelming tears... I'm always amazed when an author can make a reader/listener feel so deeply. Don't even wait for your credits to come... Just buy it.

Serious struggle to get through.

I love Aly's books. I love how she writes and how the series connect in some way. I usually have a hard time putting her works down.
But this one was a tremendous struggle to get through. I'm in no way a fan of weak leading characters and the female lead drove me nuts. Insecure, old, weepy and pathetic are just a few words that came to mind when I was listening. On the other hand, the male lead has had a tramatic past and struggling present. But what Brett & Sarah put Jesse through? I don't know of any woman who would have put up with that, love or not.

Here's where the tricky part comes in...

In order to understand this series, you have to get through this book. This book holds the vital life blood and sets the entire scene of the series.

So my advice? Hang tight. Get through it. Because book two is so much better.

On the narration note :
Christian Fox is sexy. That voice, though!
But for the love of all that is holy, please find a different female narrator. I'm sorry but Lucy Rivers put me in mind of a 55 year old woman speaking, not a 20-30 something year old. It really throws the story off.
Andi Arndt would have made this POP!

P. S. I know you REALLY want to but... Don't hate Sarah too much. You'll find out why soon.
