About this listen

Dead to their pasts. Ghosts. No family ties. No connections.

Six men with a top-secret mission move to a small town where they have to navigate local life, protect their secret, and, above all, stay single.

Aurora Harper doesn’t like Chance Hughes. He’s too handsome, too charismatic, and he’s a player. She’s had enough of players in her life after her fiancé left her for a bridesmaid three weeks before the wedding.

Been there, done that, not doing it again. But Rory let down her guard.

She and Chance spent two hot weeks together after Rory nearly died at the hands of a madman. Chance was part of the team that found her, and he stayed by her side from the moment she was freed until she kicked him out of her house when she came to her senses.

That should have been the end of it… until one line on a plastic stick changes her life forever.

Thanks to a tragic childhood, Ghost Ops soldier Chance doesn’t believe in the kind of love that lasts. There’s always been something about Rory that drew him to her, but they’re like oil and water. It’s not meant to be and it’s not worth fighting for.

But then Chance learns Rory’s pregnant at the same time someone starts sabotaging her home and business. There’s not a force on this earth that can stop Chance from unleashing the warrior inside and ending the threat to his woman and child.

Because they are his. And he’s going to prove it to her, even if it takes his very last breath to do so…

Chance is the second book in the Ghost Ops series. This volume can be read as a standalone, but I think you'll enjoy it more if you've read the first volume.
The author's writing style is wonderful, and as always, I was quickly drawn into the story.
This time it's about Chance, who works in the Ghost Ops team and shouldn't really have a steady relationship. He doesn't have that either, because his affair with Rory was actually short-lived, as she ended things pretty quickly. But then something happens that brings the two of them back together.
I liked Rory a lot; she is a tough woman who stands on her own two feet and prefers to solve everything on her own. But sometimes she almost seems a bit stubborn. And her past is standing in her way, because her heart has already been broken. Can she ever regain trust?
Chance is the lovable protector type who stole my heart after only a very short time, but who also carries emotional baggage from his past.
But you can tell there's chemistry between them when they meet. The romance is slow burn, but there's plenty of suspense and action. Strange things are happening on Rory's farm, and something fishy is going on at her brother's bar, too.
The story had me hooked pretty quickly, and I found it entertaining and enjoyable.

Avery Caris and Aaron Shedlock both did a fantastic job as narrators. They found the right voices for the protagonists and are also very good at conveying the emotions to the listeners. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to them!

Yeah for Chancey pants - excellent narration!

This is book 2 in a series but could be read as a standalone because there's enough context clues to fill in any gaps. I'm loving this series and looking forward to the next book.

Narration was excellent.

Hot and suspenseful

I really enjoyed this book. I feel like it talks less about the special ops guys and more about Rory’s issues. I would have liked it more even. I am enjoying all the characters and can’t wait till more comes out in audio. These books are standalone but have recurring characters. The narration is great. I definitely recommend these books.

Chance and Rory’s story promised to be good ever since they were introduced in Blaze. The sparks flying, the banter, all had the beginnings of a great romance and Chance did not disappoint.
Rory has been through a lot recently and Chance was there to help her recover. They get to know each other better and become friendly but their chemistry just intensifies until they can’t resist each other. Fast forward several weeks and, a pink line on a stick and a handful of events at Rory’s house and business thaf makes Chance move in once again. Rory goes from hot head to more considerate whilst Chance becomes even more protective, some say ninjas - IYKYK🤣
Just like with Blaze the subplot in the background is gripping and I’m looking forward to what comes next in the series.
Avery Caris and Aaron Shedlock were the perfect pair as the fierce Rory and the Ninja Teddy Bear Chance.
