El cáncer de mama es la proliferación rápida y descontrolada de células con genes mutados. Estos suprimen o estimulan la continuidad del ciclo celular de los tejidos de las glándulas mamarias. Algunas veces el cáncer de mama se encuentra en los ductos o en los acinos, sin invadir los tejidos vecinos. En ese caso reciben el nombre de carcinomas in situ.
