About this listen

Life is changing for Avery Shaw. She's searching for a house with her boyfriend Eliot so they can officially move in together. She's been gifted special passes to Macomb County's comic book convention - and she couldn't be more excited. She's also been put in charge of her most hated enemy at work, and the power is going straight to her head. When Eliot lets Avery visit the convention center early, the duo stumble across a dead body and Avery's happy week is thrown into turmoil. She's determined to find answers and figure out who killed the victim, but she has her hands full with other things - including her personal life - as well. Her former boyfriend Jake Farrell is in charge of security at the convention center - with an assist from Eliot - and he's dealing with his own personal issues. In addition to jealousy over Avery and Eliot moving forward, he finds his relationship with his girlfriend Cara going down the drain. Comic book conventions are filled with funny folks, and Avery is happy to meet all of them - no matter how odd. As she gets closer to a killer, though, she becomes the new target. Jake and Eliot have to work overtime to keep Avery safe, but in the end, she's the one who has to save the day if she expects those around her to survive. In a world full of superheroes, Avery may be the most wonderful of them all...as long as she lives to tell the tale, of course.

I've read the entire series in just over a week and loved every bit of them!

I liked this book but again at times I found the main character to be off putting. The Harley Quinn comparison is a very good choice for example her talent to manipulate people to her advantage, Avery does all the time by being mean, name calling or sex. Although it is a cosy so no sex is written about, just innuendo. Also the fact that they both think the world revolves around them. Once you come to understand that's just Avery and at book 9 she is unlikely to change then you can get to the mystery. I did feel although the author has a lot of fun with the comic com and I liked the number of name dropping, the mystery did get a bit lost with the house hunting, the ex boyfriend splitting up with his girlfriend and the fact that Avery was acting boss. But everything does get solved in true Avery style.
It's the best week ever for reporter Avery Shaw. First to bribe her into house hunting her boyfriend gets her back stage tickets for a comics book convention, then her boss pays her to go and puts her in charge of another reporter. Not even finding a dead body can ruin it, if she can scoop the other reporters by finding the killer. Star wars might be her favourite film but she will have to channel her inner wonder woman if she wants to solve this case before the show packs up for the next town or she has to decide on a house.
Although I did like the narrator, I do wonder if a less whinny narrator would be a better choice for the series.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
