For first-time narrator Shannon Lochlan, there’s perhaps a slightly hesitant start, but she soon settles into the story and does a brilliant job of bringing both the characters and the atmosphere to life.
An enjoyable, dark and creepy listen, and one I’d definitely recommend. I look forward to hearing more of both the author and narrator.

What I loved most was the pacing and the contrast between how normal the story felt on the surface, while the conversations and everything happening underneath were so dark. There was something so unsettling about how casually everything was presented and I really enjoyed that contrast.
This is one of those books where you keep thinking, “Hmm… why am I still going if not much is happening?” only to realise you physically cannot stop because you need to know when the big thing is finally going to happen 😂
The narration was also a huge win for me. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator’s voice completely pulled me in. It made the characters feel so much more vivid and somehow made the uncomfortable moments even more effective.
That said, I do think some elements could have been explored a little more. The sister’s character in particular felt like there was more there that I would have loved to see developed.
But overall? For a first book, I think this was really good 👏 It kept me guessing, kept me uncomfortable, and most importantly, it made me NEED to know what was coming.
