Summary

Maybe, if we met at another time - another life - he could’ve been mine. Maybe, if I were older. Maybe, if he wasn’t my brother’s best friend. Maybe, if he wasn’t my teacher.

Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Having my dirty little secret living down the hall had me obsessing over alternate endings and happily ever afters. I’d never wanted someone so badly, but his hot and cold behavior was giving me emotional whiplash.

In the classroom, he practically ignored me. But here? In my brother’s loft? It felt like we were a thick rubber band, pulled so tight we’d snap.

Falling for Decker Harris made me realize that life wasn’t as serendipitous as everyone liked to think. We weren’t just a collection of maybes thrust into the world with hope and good intentions.

Everything started with a choice, and somewhere between grief and redemption, I chose to make him mine.

Decker and Blakely!

When Blakely’s mother passed away from cancer there is a part of her that is relieved. She doesn’t have much to call her own but she finds out that she has a half brother who wants to get to know her so she ends up moving in with him and his best friend Decker. Her first meeting with Lance went well but the same can’t be said for Decker. He believes that all she wants is to take advantage of his friend and that she will only hurt him. As he learns her truths he is drawn to her despite the fact that he is her teacher and her brother’s best friend. A secret relationship ensues that will shake them all to the core and their relationships with each other will never be the same and the twists and truths will keep you entertained until the last page. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and enjoyed the male narrator.

Emotionally charged!

What happens when you fall for your brother’s best friend? Coralee June’s book, Burnout takes us into a taboo, enemies to lovers story with every emotion. Blakely goes to live with her brother Lance after the death of their mother. His best friend Decker is living with them too while his new home is being built. Blakely and Decker get off to a rocky start, but when their relationship takes a romantic turn, things are about to become complicated. Decker is not only her boyfriend, but her high school biology teacher, and Lance’s best friend. How will this all play out? June features an array of issues in this one, each problem dealt with care and compassion. As you find out the history of Decker, the truths that are spoken and the way each is handled, you too will fall for this couple. Narrated by Amber Bray and Tyler Darby. This team is perfect for a new adult genre, each finding their niche with Blakely and Decker. It is dually narrated and their voices were a great fit. I enjoyed their performance.

OMG soo Hot!!

This is such a fantastic book! I loved every part of it. The narration is amazing! CoraLee June has done it again! This book makes you fall, along with the characters and just when you think your heart is about to be ripped out. CoraLee puts you back together and sprinkles “magic-forget-all-bad dust and boom now there is a beautiful HEA you needed.

It was good but not what I was expecting

Narration: 2 .5/3⭐️ Okay. I didn’t care for the female narrator...at all. The southern accent was Over the top and at times made me cringe. The male narrator was fantastic though! Story: 3.5 ⭐️ I wouldn’t say this is a dark high school romance, as it’s advertised. Forbidden love slow burn? Yes! I was expecting more dark themes/bully type stuff to go on and that wasn’t the case. I still enjoyed this story mainly because of how both main characters were so reluctant to engage in a relationship. They resisted each other as long as possible before caving and that added tension was my jam. I just wish the forbidden aspect had been fleshed out more. Yes, they were resistant to their attraction but there wasn’t as much sneaking around as I would’ve liked. Not to mention the main conflict/turning point ends up not even being about the couple themselves or about them getting caught. It was actually kind of random. Hmmm oh! I loved Decker and Lance. I liked how protective Decker was of his best friend, Lance. Their friendship was sweet. Overall, good but not quite what I was expecting/looking for. *Audio Code provided in exchange for an honest review*

An incredible Forbidden Romance

Usually with the teacher/student forbidden romances tend to be over the top with alpha males and naive girls. This is not that. This is an incredible love story. I love every single character in this book and and an unexpected love triangle you won’t see coming. The narration was perfect. Definitely a must have companion to the book.

Forbidden perfection

It is to my complete and utter shame that I have to admit that, although I bought this book on release day, it has been sitting on my TBR-list for a long long while. I can't really give a reason why, because I'm a HUGE fan of the author and I wanted to read this book so bad. From the moment I knew the audiobook was coming, I kept postponing it (well, I was waiting for the audio really). Long story short, I have been a complete twatwaffle because this (audio)book was pure perfection. I was wholly consumed by these characters and swept away by their story and emotions. It was so pure, so raw at times and the atmosphere that is created in this book, allowed me to be there, with the characters, accompanying them on their journey. The narrators of the audiobook only strengthen this feeling, giving life to the different characters and really capturing their personalities and quirks with their voices.  This is a must read! Beyond a shadow of a doubt....

Dark YA Forbidden Romance!

Burnout (A Dark High School Romance) is a student/teacher forbidden romance with a brothers best friend twist to it. The writing style is expository. Plot twists intertwined with a subplot creating more suspense. Characters are well fleshed out with their own voice. A opulence of romance and angst swirling through the narrative. With a hea in this dual pov given with a epilogue. Narators Amber Bray, Tyler Darby in my opinion didn't fit the characters. I felt their inflection sounded older than young adults. I got older vibe more mc or mafia type listen. Other than that the naration was fine and easy listen. Overall, a entertaining listen.

High School Romance, and Taboo Story

Burnout is an entertaining High School Romance/Brother's Best Friends and Taboo story. Blakely and Decker are great characters. Blakely is wonderful, strong and independent. Decker is handsome, and protective. He is Blakely Brother's best friend, and her teacher. The supporting characters are great. Lance, Blakely's brother is a great character. Blakely's father is intriguing. The storyline has twists and turns, and a little suspense. I enjoyed it. Amber Bray and Tyler Darby did a good job with the narration.

3.5 STARS

This was my first book by Coralee June, and it won't be my last. This is a taboo/brother’s best friend/student teacher romance. I was impressed by the writing and character development and couldn’t get enough of the angst and chemistry between Blakely and Decker. Blakely’s character blew me away. She was much more mature than I initially expected. She has had to grow up quickly. She is a strong and resilient and has learned to get by in life on her own without the help of others. The first half of the book kept me engaged and listening, the second half was much harder as I found the drama over the top at times and difficult to stick with. Although, I am glad I did because the story comes together in the end and I enjoyed it overall. Amber Bray and Tyler Darby do an incredible job narrating. The power and emotion in their voices added so much to this story and I will definitely be looking out for more titles narrated by these two in the future. I received an audio code from Wildfire Marketing Solutions in exchange of an honest review.

Good story, awful narration

Oh my! Nothing like a narrator ruining a good book. Tyler Darby was good, but Amber Bray...no no no! Her over enunciation of everything got on my nerves and really took away from the story, which was pretty good. I think I would have preferred the book had I just read it.
