Summary

An old-school reporter discovers that the search for the truth is still full of surprises in a twisty short thriller from bestselling master of suspense Jeffery Deaver.

After a long run as a respected journalist, Edward “Fitz” Fitzhugh is on his way out when he stumbles across the story of a lifetime. The Gravedigger is a serial kidnapper who taunts the police with riddles. The other puzzle is his motive, which Fitz is determined to piece together. When an eyewitness to the latest abduction leads Fitz closer to the facts, he realizes that the last great story of his career is not at all what it appears to be.

Jeffery Deaver’s Buried is part of Hush, a collection of six stories, ranging from political mysteries to psychological thrillers, in which deception can be a matter of life and death. Each piece can be read or listened to in one truly chilling sitting.

Critic reviews

“Narrator JD Jackson's husky voice creates a neo-noir atmosphere for this short thriller.… Buried is as close as listeners may get to a serial killer cozy with humor and political satire - a fast listen without much blood and gore.” (AudioFile Magazine)

First Ever Disliked Book

I have tried numerous times to get into and follow this book.

Disliked audio presentation. All one tone of voice, boring.

Could not get into story. Didn't want to bother.

I love reading, audio books and also the look and feel of books. Just grand. This one was awful!

Twisty Tale- Great Thriller

This was another great story from Jeffrey Deaver. It fits perfectly with the Amazon collection of Hush, regarding what cover-ups can do. A tightly woven tale about a serial killer that is not what it seems. A veteran old school reporter discovers the story is not what it seems. Author Deaver is known for his twists and this one does not disappoint. Thrilling and entertaining. The narrator JD Jackson's gravelly voice fit this story perfectly. A fantastic short read.

This was the most annoying narrator I’ve ever listened to. I could not wait for the book to end. Good story, annoying… Horribly annoying narration. Is this really that guys voice???

Hard to follow

This short story by Jefferey Deaver would have been enjoyable except it was very hard to focus and keep track of the story because of the monotonous narration.

Okay for a short

Character development a little too trite. Connections made too easily and for no apparent reason. Errors when illustrating the new N-tech persons thoughts as including words like keyboarding instead of typing. Little things, but irritating.

HAD potential to be a good book

This is basically a short story. It starts off like a good read then bam and bam and bam done. So much potential to have been so much more and just slammed the door on it!

Very good

A lot of moving parts for such a short story, but it was interesting and compelling, with just enough intrigue to keep the story interesting without getting muddied in the details.
