Summary

Please note that this audiobook contains explicit language and content some listeners may find distressing.

The memoir from the real woman behind the leopard print, for real women everywhere.

As one-fifth of the iconic Spice Girls and judge on X Factor and America's Got Talent, Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice, has been an international star since the age of 19. And yet there are sides of Mel that no one has ever seen or really known.

Brutally Honest is an exposé of the struggles and acute pain that lay behind the glamour and success. With deep personal insight, remarkable frankness and Melanie’s trademark Yorkshire humour, this audiobook removes the mask of fame and reveals the mother, wife and daughter behind the Spice Girl everyone thinks they know.

The audiobook edition features narration from Melanie, her daughter, Phoenix, and her mother, Andrea.

Excellent book

First of all, Zara Abrahams has done an AMAZING job narrating!

This is soooo honest, no stone is left unturned, I have never read/ listened to a celebrity autobiography that goes this in depth in to the subject’s private life. I am so pleased Mel and family are safe/ happy now!

Brilliant

This sets a benchmark for celebrity autobiographies. We want to know the real story not a list of accomplishments. Sorry but anything less than Brutally Honest is boring and not worth paying for. A fantastic listen and thank you to Mel B and Audible for this great addition to my library.

Brutally honest

I knew I was going to love this book within minutes of listening to it. The narrator is brilliant and straight away I forgot that it’s not Melanie talking, really enjoyed listening to this book even though it’s sad and emotional. So brave of her to be so open.

Powerful & Inspiring!

Loved this. It has made me love Mel B even more. I think it will give a lot of women strength and motivation. She’s so down to earth and she’s normal, that’s why her story is so captivating.

My mother and I worked with Mel’s mum in C&A in Leeds, I also grew up in Leeds and am a similar age to Mel so there were a lot of personal links to this.

When Andrea came on I cried as she was a lovely woman to work alongside and she always talked a lot Mel, her daughter, living in London with this new band. At the time we didn’t know how famous she would become but we knew Andrea’s daughter would turn out to be amazing.

The Phoenix part also made me cry, what a brave girl she is and my hat goes off to Mel for making her work in a hair salon to get a value of money.

Great book!

Amazingly Honest

Well done Melanie B, so honest and so sad in equal measures.

As the title says 'Brutally Honest' it is shocking that someone who is perceived as so strong, can be so manipulated....but there is no doubt, this is exactly what happened. Stefan is a true control freak and should be ashamed at how he treated them all. It must have been so scary for Phoenix, who was too young to be able to help her mum.

This must have been so difficult to relive, the story was written and it flowed so well, the narrator did a fantastic job. It definitely seemed to be Mel B's story and the truth just shone through.

My only issue is with the comment that she believed she was hiding the horrific situation from the children....I do not think this is truly what she believes....it may be a mother's guilt, but she MUST have known it was affecting them. Having said that, there is no doubt she loves her children and should be so proud she has come out the other end, Melanie you are an inspiration, thank you x

I'm touched

Incredible story Melanie. I finished the book a day after it was released. For two straight days I didnt mind sitting in traffic to & from school & work. There wasn't a dull moment. It felt as if I was living your life struggle with you. Very detailed information. I also struggle with Dyslexia & shamed myself for not being smart enough. Slowly your book has given me the confidence to believe in myself. Thank you for sharing your story Gemini sister.

Really raw and gripping!

This book is everything thing promised - brutally honest. She owns her flaws and mistakes. I am sure many will identity with her situation. I saw someone gave a 1 star review a few minutes after it went on sale. I think that was personal and not truly reflective of the book.
