Summary

Can his sister’s fake boyfriend become his real one?

When Kendall O'Hara catches his boyfriend cheating, he runs to his sister - the only person he can rely on in the city. But she's on a business trip, so Kendall finds himself temporary roomies with her super hot and equally kind live-in boyfriend.

Luke Hale's family has made him so jaded regarding relationships, that he’s had no problem pretending to be his best friend’s boyfriend. It’s never been a problem, until her sweet, adorable brother arrives. Kendall’s passion for his food channel is contagious and his openness and vulnerability are intoxicating.

They both know the other should be off-limits, but spending time together - cooking, talking, laughing - is so easy and wonderful. Their attraction is undeniable and once Kendall learns that Luke is actually available, all bets are off. Sizzling chemistry quickly gives way to real feelings. But Kendall’s stay is temporary. Can their friends with benefits arrangement blossom into a forever love or will they both wind up alone again?

Brother-in-Law Material is a sweet and sexy M/M romance with the following tropes: fake boyfriend, temporary roommates, friends with benefits, best friend's brother.

Sweet romance with sister's best friend

Overall, this was an enjoyable romance to listen to. It's got a fake relationship, though not between the MCs, sister's best friend, roommate romance. A lot going on through the book but an easy listen with the wonderful Michael Ferraiuolo doing the narration. Luke is a lovely man, really kind and caring but doesn't want to give any hope to Kendall when they find they are equally attracted to each other and both single. His relationship and family history has him thinking that he would be no good for a partner. Kendall has a lot going on with breaking up with his partner when he's found cheating, staying with his sister's best friend and supposed boyfriend. He also has an ongoing vlog regarding food, which is extra entertaining with his extreme lack of cooking skills. Luke steps up to help there with great results and when Kendall is in need of support around his ex. Luke's kindness and Kendall's needs bring them back together over again and there's only so long they can stay away. There's a bit of angst as to the will they/won't they as Luke is determined that he isn't a permanent choice for anyone but especially Kendall.
I liked all of the characters involved in the story, Luke's cousin brought a bit of fun and jealousy into the mix. Scenes between the MC's range between extremely hot and heavy to fun and exasperation. There's a good balance between the two and I liked how things played out between the two men overall. I do think that Kendall could have stood up and supported Luke a little more than worrying about his ex and himself so much but it worked out for them eventually.
Michael, again, does a fantastic job of narration. There doesn't seem to be any trope that he can't cover and he draws me immediately into the story and endears the characters to me.

Cute

This was a really sweet mutual pining book. It's packed full of tropes: fake boyfriends, enforced living arrangements, misunderstanding, a meddling family member.
Both guys were adorable. I love that Kendall can't cook but still has a foodie YT channel.
Narrator does a great job.

Everything Is Not As It Has Appeared.

MM, My Sisters Boyfriend, Romance, Such a funny twist to the My Sisters Boyfriend theme. I laughed so much while listening to the book. Although there are angsty moments on the whole the story is light-hearted and fun with lots of steam. Narrated brilliantly by Michael Ferraiuolo. lots going on throughout the story.

An awesome brother in law!

I had read this book and loved it but listening to it on Michael Ferraiuolo’s voice is heaven. Luke is Kendall’s sister’s boyfriend and the one Kendall turns to one awful night when he found out his boyfriend cheating. Well, he was looking for his sister and instead he found her bff and roommate. Their romance is sweet, Kendall is adorable, Luke a bit frustrating and then Mizuki appears to trouble the waters. Luke would have to man up if he doesn’t want to lose Kendall. Adorable!

A great twist on a trope

I loved this double twist on the fake boyfriend trope. Kendall and Luke make a perfect couple and when you combine that with an ex- causing trouble and lots of food in the plot it was perfect. Michael Ferraiuolo is a favorite audiobook performer and here he does a superb job of springing the surprises and showing the deeper emotions of the characters.

Beautiful narration!

This book is simply beautiful! The story even after what happened at the beginning was so happy, bubbling and sweet that I couldn't stop reading it until the very end, and Mr Ferraiuolo made an outstanding job getting the feeling of the characters and bringing them alive. I could even taste the wonderful food mentioned in the story! A cute and endearing love story and a perfect narration that complemented it. WOW!

Enjoyable but much better with narration

I haven’t read a lot from this author, but I enjoyed how she constructed this fake boyfriend (one of my favorite tropes!), friends-to-lovers story. However, I do think it went a bit awry in the execution. Admittedly, I did find the plot to be a bit bizarre, with gaps, particularly in the relationship development between Kendall and Luke. I really liked them but their pairing didn’t quite gel for me. It needed more development or backstory … it just felt a bit forced. That being said, it’s definitely sweet, steamy, low angst and on the whole, enjoyable. Mizuki is totally the star of the show in this book, along with the audiobook narrator, Michael Ferraiuolo. His narration (as per usual) is on-point. He does an excellent job differentiating between the characters, and his pacing and intonations are spot-on. If you are going to jump into this book, I highly recommend doing it with the audiobook. It’s definitely a better experience in my opinion.

Cute fake boyfriend story

I’m a huge Michael Ferraiuolo fan, so when he saw his new audio, I was happy to snap it up. Ms. Lacy is a new-to-me author and I’m always up for an adventure. In this case, the decision was the right one. I really enjoyed this audio.

I empathized with Kendall – finding his boyfriend in bed with another man. Ouch. I understood his desire to run to where he felt safest – his sister’s home. Unfortunately she’s out of town, but her roommate his home. Kendall’s had a crush on the man for years, but he can shove those feelings aside if it means he has a roof over his head while he finds somewhere to live.

I was curious why Luke was living platonically with Kendall’s sister. Both of them make enough money to live alone. I guess maybe they shared the space when they were starting out professionally? Yes, they’re pretending to be a couple and why didn’t Kendall wonder why the two didn’t share a bedroom? All little questions that didn’t detract from the enjoyment of the audio but did leave me with questions.

Anyway, Kendall finds himself dealing with an ex who won’t take a hint, and Luke is happy to step up to be the fake boyfriend. And if they are attracted to each other, they can manage that. Right? Well, since this is a romance, that question answers itself.

I enjoyed the story, especially Michael’s narration of it. He just adds an extra special something to the story and although the book is a stand-alone, I really hope Luke’s cousin gets a book of his own. I adored him!

Kendall & Luke

This is a really cute and sweet story with a wonderful narrator that truly brings the story and characters to life. When Kendall ends up staying at his sister's place with her boyfriend Luke, the sparks between them ignite immediately. They each feel the other is off limits, Kendall doesn't know Luke only pretends to be his sister's boyfriend, and Luke doesn't do real relationships and doesn't want to hurt his best friend's little brother. Fate definitely has other plans for them and sometimes it just takes meeting the right person to have the future you never thought you could. These two are both a lot of fun and extremely hot together! I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book.

Sweet and Steamy

A sweet Hallmarkish MM romance with a good dose of steam/heat. Like and Kendall are made for each other and you fall in love with them from the very beginning. The narration only adds to the many things to love about the audio.

Luke and Kendall's Best-Friend's-Brother Romance

‘Brother-in-Law Material’ is a cute, fairly short novel that tells the best-friend’s-younger-brother love story of Luke and Kendall. When Kendall’s boyfriend cheats on him, he temporarily moves into Luke’s apartment Will the close-proximity cause sparks to fly?

Both Luke and Kendall are likeable characters. Kendall is especially adorable due to a sunshine-y personality and his enthusiasm for improving his food blog/channel. With Luke, though, Crystal Lacy does a disservice to his character by not diving deeper into his emotional issues surrounding his commitment phobia.

Overall, the story is a nice low-angst romance that i found enjoyable, but I felt it was a little too superficial. I might have liked it more if Lacy had done one of two things: 1) shorten it to a meet-cute, insta-love type of story, or 2) lengthen it to add more depth to Luke’s past relationships.

Michael Ferraiuolo delivers a good performance in narration. I liked the interpretation of Kendall’s character a lot. There are a few instances that cause confusion as to which character is speaking.

I requested and received a free review copy of this audiobook and am now posting my honest opinions about it.

Recommended.

A Light & Steam-Heavy Fake Relationship Romance

I enjoyed this light and fluffy romance overall, and narrator Michael Ferraiuolo took it all up a notch with his engaging performance. His voice for Kendall in particular really brought him to life (more so than if I'd just been e-book reading), perfectly capturing the endearing character's effervescent spark and natural charm.

When Kendall flees his apartment after catching his boyfriend cheating, he ends up on his sister's doorstep. Only it's her longtime "boyfriend" Luke who welcomes him in since she's away, and little does Kendall know, Luke and the sister are only best friends whose dating relationship is a ruse for family appearances.

As Kendall and Luke form a friendship with an unspoken attraction zinging between them, a work party leads to Luke posing as Kendall's boyfriend, and things get only get more complicated - and very steamy - from there.

More friend-level bonding time outside of the bedroom would've been nice and added some welcome depth to the MCs and their connection, but my biggest quibble with the story is Luke's reasoning behind his reluctance to pursue a romantic relationship (beyond hookups) with Kendall. It all felt rather flimsy, particularly since it follows the big sister/best friend ruse revelation and seemed counter to Luke's otherwise thoughtful and caring nature.

Still, great narration helped make for an enjoyable listen, and here's to hoping Luke's charming foodie cousin Mizuki gets his own HEA story. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily.

loved it!!

This was super fun to listen to!! I loved Kendall and all his sunshine. He was so upbeat even after finding his boyfriend cheating on him. I loved that he had no filter, sooo funny! Luke was the opposite, big, growly and broody. Therefore they were perfect for one another even if Luke is Kendall’s sister’s boyfriend! I seriously loved this story, sooo good! I loved the hot, steaminess and chemistry between Luke and Kendall! I loved Luke’s cousin Mizuki; I hope he gets a story too!! Michael Ferraiuolo did a fantastic job with the narration!!
