Summary

When rebellious teenager Misty Sullivan falls pregnant to a local wannabe gangster, she soon becomes a prisoner in her own home. Despite the betrayal of her best friend, she eventually recovers her self-belief and plots revenge on her abusive boyfriend with spectacular consequences.

This gripping tale sees the impressive debut of Karen Woods in the first of a series of novels based on characters living on a Manchester council estate. Themes of social deprivation, self-empowerment, lust, greed and envy come to the fore in this authentic tale of modern life.

Narrator wrong choice

The story was good, I’m from Manchester and I could relate to a lot of what I listened to however the narrator spoilt it for me. The story was far fetched in parts also. Certain things just didn’t add up

Meh

Good storyline. Narrator not suited to this book though. Weird ending, felt a little rushed to finish the story

Not for me

Managed to finish it but was not an enjoyable listen
Narrators voice didn’t suit the book at all.

Wrong narrater

Turned off at chapter 2. I Feel like Narrater has no connection with story. There was no feeling behind it, the language used didn't suit his style.

Think a female reader might have been better

The story was ok, not edge of the seat stuff. The voice tho just didn’t resonate with me.
It sounded like a camp drag artist at times doing the young girls voices. Not sure it was a book that lent its self to a male voice

excellent story

What a well out together story, you can empathize with this young girl from the start and only cringe and the choices she makes thinking this is what love is. It feels like there could be a follow on to this but if it were it would only mean that further heartache was in store so it's best left as it is. The one pity is there are a few intrusive sounds on the recording and it seems to skip towards the end so I'm unsure if some vital part to this story is missed. But that said it was an excellent story and so well narrated so it would be a shame to miss out on it.

Absolute Drivel

Lots of the story just doesn't make sense. The author doesn't do very well conveying how much time has past. They were together 7 months, the baby was born then all of a sudden they'd been together years? Misty's abuse had suddenly lasted years.
I honestly don't think the author has researched the subject she's written about at all. . For example late teens early 20s man that's known around the Manchester estate for being a bit dodgy has never seen or even heard of what cocaine is? Come on!!
I also don't like how the author dealt with Max coming out as being gay. Seemed a bit homophobic to me. Teasing him that he's going to be nicking his sister's clothes and wanting a pink room?! What year is it?!
I could go on and on with my complaints about this book. The only thing I'm pleased about is that is was free!

Poor narration

Good story but the narrator lacked any emotion when reading . You can normally visualise the characters with a good narrator but not in this case.

Compelling characters

A bit slow to start with but brilliant storyline. Misty is a loveable character with lots of good traits.
