Summary

Frankie Verdi, Eddie Williams and Tony Thompson are The Three Dogs. A ruthless criminal gang. A law unto themselves.

Detective Jim Hacker has watched the Dogs grow from thuggish youths to psychotic criminals and seems to be the only cop in town with the determination to see justice done.

Meanwhile Jamie Strange, a young Royal Marine, finds himself embroiled in the lives of the gang when his girlfriend, Laurie Holland, cuts off their engagement...to be with the most dangerous of The Dogs: Frankie Verdi. Strange knows right from wrong, but when Verdi begins to target Jamie's family, he makes an enemy of a man more dangerous than even he could imagine.

Good story

Enjoyed the book , more so because I was familiar with all the locations , streets and pubs contained in the storylines.
Perhaps having lived in Preston ( main location) for over 40 years , worked on most of the council estates and frequented most of the pubs ,I listened to the book with a critical ear.
Good story that kept my attention throughout.

Narrator

As always Jonathan Keeble’s narration is second to none. I find myself searching for books with him narrating.
The character development was well paced, and the nods to the 80’s were scattered throughout.
This was one of those books that I looked forward to every evening and felt sad when it finished.

Excellent

A really great listen. I have listened to Robert White's Rick Fuller series and enjoyed them. I thought I would try this stand alone offering. I was not disappointed, this is great listen. Jonthan Keeble's narration brings the book to live with a first class narration. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Excellent all round Thriller

Good story with accurate description of Preston as the base location. Jonathan Keeble is an excellent narrator who accurately and professionally conveys the story. My first experience of books by Robert White and I will certainly listen to others by this author. CDC (ex Preston lad of many years past)

Engrossing

Robert White is becoming one of my favourite authors. His writing style is unique and like his other books the story is told from the perspective of each of the characters. This is a sad but engrossing tale that draws you in from start to finish. Well worth the money.

Excellent

Great listen, I really enjoyed it. It captures 1980s Northern England well. The mentions of Malaya and Aden at the start certainly set the scene for the last few chapters..Brutal.

His Best Yet.

Goodies and baddies in dramatic scene after scene. A compelling tale written with pacy prose. Excellent.

Very good story

This was such an enjoyable book, I listened to it in two days as I couldn’t turn it off. The narrator was fantastic, so good with all the different voices. I loved the way the story unfolded, using the narrator as the detective narrating the story. I don’t know if this is a reflection of my own personality but I thought the ending was justified and very deserved by the villains.
