And so we get a book of two halves, before the ghosting and after, years later when Finn comes to play for Hayes team.
The first part had that new forbidden romance feel, but it was hard to completely enjoy it because I knew what was coming. I actually liked the second half better. Hayes is out and proud by this point and, of course, still madly in love with Morgan (we know this from Zach's book). I loved the redemption of Morgan. Morgan's interactions with Jacob are some of my favourite things in this book.
Overall, an enjoyable hockey second chance romance with a slight age gap.
Darcy Stark does an excellent job with the narration as usual.

Darcy Starks narration brought Morgan and Hayes to life and at times I was laughing out loud with some of the comments, especially at the start when Hayes went all fanboy and it hit him that he was playing on the same team as Morgan. You can feel the passion they had for each other and the betrayal resonating more as I listened emphasising how that one moment hurt them both.
The comradery between Morgan and Jacob showed how much they did respect each other.
As with the book I will returning to the story and whether I am listening to it or reading it, I will always enjoy Morgan and Hayes

There is so much I could say about this book, it’s romantic and steamy and there’s a lot of pining. I wasn’t sure how Beth Bolton was going to approach this book but I’m so happy that she gave us the full background story about how Hayes and Morgan first got together.
Darcy Stark did a fantastic job performing this story, as he has done with all of Beth’s books that he’s narrated.

When Morgan and Hayes first played together, Morgan was the hockey superstar and Hayes was his up-and-coming successor. Their ten days together at the All Stars tournament were eye-opening in more ways than one, most notably because that's when Morgan realized he wasn't as straight as he'd always thought and that Hayes was the man who made him want to break all the rules. Their sexual chemistry was so good I thought I was going to combust, and the mix of flirting, hopefulness, and attraction were a happy buzz that got me energized about their future potential. Of course, Morgan couldn't have a good thing without over complicating it, and because I've read the Portland Evergreens series I was prepared for the end of the tourney to end in heartbreak as well.
I've always had a soft spot for second chance stories, and when this one involved difficult, pricky, arrogant Morgan having to woo Hayes back into his heart, well I was a total goner. Morgan was such a romantic when he wanted to be, all anxious and tender-hearted when it came to making sure Hayes knew just how much he mattered to Morgan. I don't blame Hayes for not being able to stay mad at the man, because he really demonstrated that he knew he'd screwed up and wanted to give a romantic relationship another shot. If their first coupling was delightfully steamy, their second time around felt downright magical. Their six years apart had shown them how special a connection like theirs was, and both men were in the right headspace to hold on and never let go. I had heart-eyes for most of the second half of the book, and every time Morgan called Hayes "angel" or did little things like fix his coffee perfectly, wait for him in bed after a road trip so Hayes wouldn't come home to an empty house, and pick out special date desserts that wouldn't screw up Hayes's hockey meal planning, I fell more in love.
The main hurdles the two of them had to overcome were external, whether it was negotiating Hayes's next contract or Morgan coming out to his son or the two of them figuring out how they would tell the world about their relationship. Romance wise, Hayes and Morgan were locked in, and every passing day only made me more certain that theirs was a forever kind of love. The two of them had so many adorable moments that it's hard to single out a favorite, but I have to give a special mention to the game night that Morgan wore Hayes's jersey and the brain-melting properties it had on Hayes. My only complaint is that I wanted to see the inverse of Hayes wearing Morgan's jersey, but I guess that one will have to live rent-free in my imagination instead. All in all, Morgan and Hayes were an absolute delight, and I also loved how much hockey camaraderie I got to see between Finn, Danny, and Jacob. The epilogue made my heart feel so full I thought it would burst, and I couldn't think of a better full-circle moment for my favorite hockey superstars.
