A powerful account of a journey that proves "This Girl Can". A yearning for space and silence; for air in the lungs; for purpose—the simplicity of a defined mission—had banished doubt and fear and driven me to climb on my bike. And as I pedaled up the country, venturing far beyond my comfort zone in every sense, I found within me untapped reserves of determination, singlemindedness, and pure joy that spurred me on further. I saw the truth in the saying that you only know what you’re capable of when you’re pushed beyond your limits.

Are you braver than you think? That's the question Claire Davies began asking herself as she cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats, ill-prepared, unsupported and alone. At a mid-life low point, craving space and time to think, or not to think, Claire decided that a long bicycle ride was what she needed. Setting off for Scotland just a few weeks later, on a bike named Trixie, guided by a gadget called Guillaume, she had little idea what she was letting herself in for. It turned out to be a journey not only to better physical fitness and mental health, but also to empowerment and self-discovery, partly through the eyes of the people she met along the way.

One one level, this book is a travelogue, a day-by-day account of an iconic British journey, to be enjoyed as much by those with real aspirations of cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats as by armchair cycle tourers. But the challenges Claire faced on the ride, and her personal reflections from the saddle, will also serve as inspiration for anyone who needs coaxing out of the their comfort zone, or is simply seeking a spot of vicarious adventure.

I love reading about others travel adventures, particularly when a bike is involved and my favourite type of Audible book, is one that is narrated by the author.
As we follow Claire on her long journey across the country, we learn from the many ups and downs that she has to deal with (not just the physical ones). Reassuringly, Claire voices and dispels the many fears that go through a potential travellers mind - particularly a lone female one - just by relaying experiences of her trip.
Be warned though, Just as this trip has encouraged Claire to adventure more, its story has the power to encourage the reader to further adventures too. I do hope Claire documents some of her other End to Ends. I would have no hesitation to purchase the next one too.

An End to End - that is just the beginning.

Beautifully read, creating a lovely stress-free zone. Totally inspiring book. I find myself now looking over at my blue and pink bike and wondering if I could do it too?

The strength of character of the rider that comes through so strongly!

When I downloaded the book on Audible I had already read the hard copy and had thoroughly enjoyed it. The Audible version felt like a very different experience as it was narrated by the author and it enabled me to get a deeper insight into the personal challenges that she had faced along her journey from Land's End to John O' Groats. She describes the highs and the lows of her cycle ride in a way that really spoke to me. Not only was it a physical challenge but a mental and an emotional one too. Claire was very candid about her vulnerabilities and insecurities which resonated with me. She had to dig deep on occasions but still continued even when the going got tough. I loved her stories about the kindness she received from strangers and the beautiful scenery she passed along the way which encouraged her to keep pedaling despite the challenging weather and the inclines. It was a journey of discovery and it made me realise that sometimes you just have to put your brave pants on and give things a go. This is a truly inspiring read and the title is perfect - we should all try and remember that we're braver than we think.
