Summary

M/M scenes

When Casey's long term boyfriend suddenly locks him out of the house, he thinks his world has ended. Who would have known after everything they'd been through together, Father McDermott, a Catholic priest he has secretly been dating, would do something like that to him?

Then he meets Hunter, a slightly older, slow-talking, smart but simple country boy who takes him in and teaches Casey to believe in himself, what true love is, and how to please a real man in bed (or on his knees).

If you are a fan of Always by Kindle Alexander, The Backup Boyfriend by River Jaymes, Broken Pieces, Stay, or Collide by Riley Hart, or any of the Dreamspinner Press books, you'll enjoy this short novel.

as good as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Great M/M romance !

I thought that this is a well written and narrated story. This is a sweet m/m romance that had me intrigued from the beginning. This book has intrigue and romance.
The narrator does a great job with the characters and voices of each character which makes it easy to distinguish between the characters.
I definitely recommend this book.

ehhh, not that great

The narrator sounds like an 80 year old man. Really did a disservice to the story.

solid 3.5 stars all round

Would I listen to it again: maybe
Did the story keep me engaged: reasonably
Was I invested in the characters: enough to keep me interested in the outcome
Story comment: sweet story, easy pace and likeable characters.

I'm a bit on the fence with the narration. There are differences in the characters voices (for the most part) and the intonations are OK and work to bring life to the characters, but the narration speed wasn't right. I'm not a fan of speeding up audiobooks, nuances in the performance have a tendency to get lost, but the native speed of this book was to slow. Speeding it up to 1.25 times the normal speed helped. There are also some production and editing issues, but it's now 2020 and this was released in 2016 - expectations are much higher!

short and sweet

Very sweet how two opposites find each other. good character development and back story for the length. a few hiccups in the reading, but not enough to disrupt the whole story.

Not as good as I’d hoped for

Casey, an openly gay young man had secretly been dating Father McDermott, a Catholic priest for several years. Without warning, McDermott locks Casey out of his house.

Searching for a job, Casey answers an ad for a roommate in a farm house. The ad had been placed by Hunter, an older, grumpy, slow-talking country boy who doesn’t give a damn about other people’s opinions. At least that was the case until Hunter met Casey - and the two of them run into McDermott.

The plot from that moment on was completely predictable.

Talbot’s narration on Boyfriend for Rent was not up to the quality of his usual narration. Too often the voice inflection for McDermott was indistinguishable from Casey’s. The tonal quality used for Hunter’s voice was grating.

DFN!

I'm so sorry but don't even waste your time listening. the narration is so bad. u couldn't tell most times when it was a different character he was talking like, then the main character was 25 but the narrator made him sound so much older. The book is also not edited properly, chapter 16 and 17 is the same thing.

The voice actor is a little boring for this story & the story I wish was a little bit more juicy

enjoyed this quick MM

I don't know if it just came at the right time or whatever but I really enjoyed this quickie. it's sweet, has a HFN and is respectful. The characters are real and was just enough story to make it all plausible. I really enjoyed it.

Such a good book

This book is rather different from other books in this genre. Instead of instant hot chemistry between the two main characters we get anger and indifference. Casy has his world turned upside down and then has to find out how to live. This book was well written and the narrator did a great job. I would certainly recommend this book to others who enjoy MM romance. I did receive this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Good story but narration had many probs.

Casey was secretly dating a Priest and when the priest breaks up with him and kicks him out with nowhere to go and no money he finds a farmhouse with room for rent and asks to trade room for chores and luckily for him Hunter says yes for the short term. They get along and time passes. Casey tells Hunter he's gay and he says he doesn't mind but doesn't really share much more than that. so Casey assumes he's straight. They become good friends but after they run into Casey's ex and pretend to be together and the ex reminds them theres a school reunion they have to keep up their fake relationship. This is a very slow burn. A friends to lovers book and I really enjoyed it. Considering it's short length it didn't feel rushed or unfinished.

The narrator was ok I guess but I wasn't really a fan of the voices esp Hunter. Also I did have to lol at the poor editing done when in chapter 11 he drops the mic or whatever and has to start over. Then he calls chapter 16 chapter 17 and repeats a sentence. Then chapter 17 is a repeat of 17. Not sure if the narrator just screwed up or if he maybe forgot a chapter. Either way the editing is very poor.

Audio issues

there is a problem with the audio some lines are repeated and one whole chapter repeated itself

like the story itself but the audio issues are very annoying
