About this listen

Evaline Manor was sure she'd lived the worst day of her life when she witnessed the death of her father and narrowly avoided a brutal attack. Now she's trapped in the kingdom ruled by her aunt and uncle who are desperate to keep her docile and marry her off. She's determined to utilize her combat training to escape Kembertus and flee to one of the neighboring kingdoms.

Maddox Vicor doubted whether the Goddess of Fate would grant him a mate. Most Kova found theirs in their first hundred years. He'd long passed that mark. But on his first day in Kembertus, he catches Evaline pickpocketing his dagger. In one moment, his world turns on its axis as he feels the bond snap into place, and Maddox knows that this woman with white hair and inhuman reflexes is his mate.

The illusion of freedom that Evaline holds dear is torn away on her new worst day when her aunt proposes an arrangement that she'd kill to escape. With time slipping through her fingers and danger closing in on all sides, she must do the one thing she fears most in order to save herself: she must trust a bloodthirsty immortal.

I didn't fully understand Eva's plan. I thought better opportunities existed seeing as the outcome was going to be the same. But I continued. Then it got towards the end and it started to lose me. whiplash moments started to happen. But once the childish bickering started I just thought to myself, am I going to purchase the next book, no. so I stopped listening with an hour to go. By this point it had fully got on my nerves. I found Eva to be very ungrateful and then she started to get OTT dramatic. But at that point Maddox had also disappointed me, so i found no loyalty or like to either character.

started well but then became childish

I found Evaline to be selfish, arrogant, overly dramatic, contrary and in the end concluded that Maddox deserved so much better. She didn't do anything for him the whole way through when he was nothing but kind and romantic. Spoiler alerts. Unfortunately the story requirements seemed to dictate some of her behaviour, e.g. she should have taken the win in the graveyard and got rid of Basil. Then she wouldn't have needed to lie / get her friends minds wiped / go through a wedding. All that seemed pointless but obviously it must be necessary that everyone knows what she did. And at no point did she offer him her blood, she was happy to drain him and she knew how Kova fed, but I assume if he drank that would complete the mate bond. Then at the end there obviously needed to be opportunity for kidnap but after all he did and said it just made me hate her that she ran. I won't continue with the series as I don't want Maddox running to save her she doesn't deserve it

Maddox deserved better
