About this listen

'A fresh, original love story, beautifully told.' RUTH HOGAN, author of The Keeper of Lost Things

After 50 years together Stan still adores his wife... so why is he dating again?

Bonnie and Stan are soulmates. They met during the Swinging Sixties, to the soundtrack of The Beatles and the Merseybeat scene. Now they've grown up and grown old together, had children and grandchildren. They are finally building their dream home, when disaster strikes.

Stan is running out of time, and can't bear the thought of leaving Bonnie alone. Alongside his teenage granddaughter Greya, he forms a plan to find Bonnie a new love of her life. And she must never find out...

Bonnie & Stan is a poignant, surprising love story set during the Swinging Sixties and the present day. Ultimately feel-good and full of emotion, Bonnie & Stan will make your heart sing.©2019 Anna Stuart (P)2019 Orion Publishing Group

Bonnie and Stan are in the later years of their lives when Stan in diagnosed with a terminal illness. His biggest worry though, is can Bonnie cope alone? He starts to go on 'dates' to try and find the perfect partner for Bonnie when he is no longer around. The book is set in two time periods - the MerseyBeat era of the 1960s and the present day. The story glides beautifully between the two and the stories about Stan's band 'The Best Boys' made me feel like I was there in the Cavern Club. There is a lovely surprise at the end, and the narrators are brilliant (Victoria Fox and Peter Kenny). They grabbed me from the beginning and my dog had extra long walks so that I could listen to more. I'm a great fan of Anna Stuart in her other guise as a historical fiction writer, and I hope there will be more contemporary fiction from her in the future. Laughs out loud and the occasional tear. A fantastic listen!
