Summary
The second dark and twisted thriller in the Avison Fluke series by M. W. Craven, the acclaimed author of The Puppet Show.
Investigating how a severed hand ends up on the third green of a Cumbrian golf course is not how Detective Inspector Avison Fluke has planned to spend his Saturday. So when a secret protection unit from London swoops in quoting national security, he's secretly pleased.
But trouble is never far away. A young woman arrives at his lakeside cabin with a cryptic message: a code known to only a handful of people and it forces Fluke back into the investigation he's only just been barred from.
In a case that will change his life forever, Fluke immerses himself in a world of New Age travellers, corrupt cops and domestic extremists. Before long he's alienated his entire team, has been arrested under the Terrorism Act - and has made a pact with the Devil himself. But a voice has called out to him from beyond the grave. And Fluke is only getting started...

Interesting
After “Born in a burial gown” I was really looking forward to this book. And while I did enjoy it it it did seem as though it was going down the same route as most with the maverick police officer. Some of their actions were ridiculous and his girlfriend! Talk about high maintenance. All in all, entertaining new series.

Even better than the first
Really gripping - I loved it. I really enjoy the narrator too, perfect for the role. I can’t wait for the next instalment :-)

Brilliant
I recently read the Puppet Show and Black Summer by the same author. I really enjoyed them so decided to read this one, I want disappointed. The book is full of twists, I couldn’t stop listening!! The narration really compliments the story with a touch of humour added! I highly recommend this book. Just about to read Born in a burial ground which is book 1!!

Another cracker from M W Craven
I discovered M W Craven through his Washington Poe novels and his Avison Fluke series doesn't disappoint. Another well crafted story and the same dry humour as in Cravens other novels, I thoroughly enjoyed Body Breaker. I just hope there's more to come for Fluke!

Gripping
I absolutely loved this book. I laughed out loud at Towler and fell in love with him a little. It was brilliant, so clever i want to listen again!

A fast paced story
This is the second in the Fluke series and I loved it as much as the first. The team of disparate characters have really gelled in this one even if they do all fall out.
It would be a shame if there aren't any more of them because the end sets up a follow up nicely.
Fluke is an interesting character and his relationship with Towler is fascinating. I'm not so keen on the relationship between Fluke and Bridie though, she was the cool tattooed international lawyer in the first book and I had great hopes for a strong female character in this book but instead she turns into the nagging girlfriend who wants to improve her man, if feels a bit like a cliche of what men think all women are like.
That aside, I have really enjoyed both of these books and listened to them within a week of getting them.
John Banks also deserves a mention, he is a great narrator, a really good voice that keeps up the pace and makes it clear who it's speaking.

Excellent plot
Complex plot. Well developed characters and plausible situations. Maybe just a little too much time on personal relationships but not enough to spoil things.

Excellent, fantastic and well worth listening to.
Great characterisation and a plot that pulls you in. The narrator is extremely engaging and conveys the emotions if the characters effortlessly.

Definitely Worth a Credit
I'm really enjoying the M. W Craven books. They're fast paced with lots of twists and interesting storylines. I love Fluke's relationship with Towler, it's unconditional. Hopefully there is a third book in the pipeline, they left us on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Is it just me, or have other people noticed the similarities between the leading characters? Fluke with his log cabin and Poe with his Shepherds Croft - both in isolated locations and having problems with the possibility of eviction. Nevertheless, they make the drive to and from work much more exciting.
