About this listen

When the girls are banned from the five-a-side tournament, young Sikh footballer Bobby Bains rallies his teammates to make a stand in this uplifting tale of solidarity from Bali Rai.

Bobby Bains lives for football, so when his friend Maisie delivers the news that a five-a-side tournament is coming to Wigby, he’s as excited as she is to get stuck in. His team, the Wigby FC Juniors, have a solid chance of winning and Maisie manages to pull a girls’ team together in time to sign up.

But then the tournament’s organisers tell the girls they can’t play and Bobby knows he can’t just sit back. In fact, he definitely ain’t playing! Inspired by the Sikh story of Guru Hargobind, Bobby rallies his friends to stand in solidarity with one another and protest for equality on the pitch.
