Summary

In 1946, Eva leaves behind the rubble of Berlin for the streets of New York City, stepping from the fiery aftermath of one war into another, far colder one, where power is more important than principles and lies are more plentiful than the truth. Eva holds the key to a deadly secret: Project Bluebird - a horrific experiment of the concentration camps, capable of tipping the balance of world power. Both the Americans and the Soviets want Bluebird, and it is something that neither should ever be allowed to possess.

But Eva hasn't come to America for secrets or power. She hasn't even come for a new life. She has come to America for one thing: justice. And the Nazi that has escaped its net.

Critically acclaimed author of The Light in Hidden Places Sharon Cameron weaves a taut and affecting thriller ripe with intrigue and romance in this alternately chilling and poignant portrait of the personal betrayals, terrifying injustices, and deadly secrets that seethe beneath the surface in the aftermath of World War II.

Different person from the war

I wasn't sure I was going to like this book after I started listening to it, I found that it read slightly weird, almost like the character was constantly referring to herself in the 3rd person but I eventually got used to it and I ended up thoroughly enjoying the story. The secret she was protecting was not what I was expecting it to be so that was interesting. And I'm not surprised that the US government was researching that specific topic (don't want to ruin the book by saying what it is). The US always likes to act like they're better but in reality, they're doing the same messed up stuff other countries do too. Anyways, I've read so many WWII books and don't leave reviews for all but felt like this one deserved it. it was well written and well narrated and was different from all the others, and I enjoyed the authors note at the end, it's always interesting to me to learn about what is true and what is made up in these kinds of books.

great read.

Not the usual WW II story. Fascinating and unusual perspective. Narrator added pitch perfect tension.

Captivating and an eye opener.

I learned something new and horrifying about WWII. I can totally see why this is not a part of American history...but we need to know. Thank you. Will look for more books by her.
