About this listen

When philandering Sir Giles Lynchwood decides it's time to wriggle free of his monumentally unattractive wife, Lady Maud, he knows divorce is out of the question. He can't leave her and keep her cash; a reversionary clause on her ancestral home, Handyman Hall, has taken care of that. Lady Maud, for her own special reasons, is also dying to see the back of Sir Giles. Sir Giles dreams of motorways ploughing through the front door of Handyman Hall, of compulsory purchase orders, of loot and no wife. Lady Maud bellows. Blott the gardener watches from his inner sanctum, the greenhouse, and listens...and waits.©1985 Tom Sharpe (P)2014 Audible, Inc. Literature & Fiction Funny Witty Feel-Good Marriage

I don't go along with some of the reviews I read that say this is a hysterically funny book, don't drive while listening or you'll lose control of the car...... However, it was quite amusing and light enough to keep me happy on a long trip. It is my first experience of Mr Blott and I am glad I tried it. Nicely written and very well narrated.

A bit of fun

David suchet is tremendous as the narrator. More twists and turns than a rattlesnake with a hernia! A must read.

Hilarious

Brought back happy memories of the TV series.
Not normally what I would listen to but so glad I did!

Loved it!

A story of miscommunication. A love story. A farce. A picture of England. I revelled in it's eccentricities.

British Humour at it's Best

extreemley funny. British... listenable and believable. However one antisemitic statement not connected to the story about shooting a Jew towards the end for no reason.. made me wonder.

perfect
