About this listen

A sweet sapphic romance takes a deadly dark turn in this sharp-as-a-knife novella with the slow build menace of Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber—from a New York Times-bestselling author hailed by Chuck Wendig as "a storyteller working at the top of her class."

Rosemary meets Ash at the farmers' market. Ash—precise, pretty, and practically perfect—sells bars of soap in delicate pastel colors, sprinkle-spackled cupcakes stacked on scalloped stands, beeswax candles, jelly jars of honey, and glossy green plants.

Ro has never felt this way about another woman. With Ash, she wants to be her and have her in equal measure. But as her obsession with Ash consumes her, she may find she's not the one doing the devouring . . .

Told in lush, delectable prose, this is a deliciously dark tale of passion taking an unsavory turn . . .

Contains mature themes.

Most of this book feels like a rather run if the mill romance with a toxic love interest, but since the twist at the end feels obvious you're just waiting to get there. It does not feel like Ro is in any real danger until the last few chapters, 1 because there is so much left of the book and 2 it would feel tonally wrong for anything explicitly scary to happen until then.
It's a probably a pretty good book if you like modern romances and want something with an edgy ending, but it was not quite what I was expecting personally.

Not quite eerie

This book falls outside my usual genre but I've always enjoyed Delilah's books.
In this book, it feels like Delilah perfectly describes life in the southern states of America. You are transported to sunny states and a relaxed way of life.
The characters and their lives are perfectly told - it's easy to put the words into pictures and to be sucked in further.
The story is clever - you start to pick up on the warning signs in the story but it keeps you guessing until the end. As ever, there are amazing quote worthy pieces.
There are parts with adult themes but they are in keeping with the story.
I enjoyed Sarah's performance - she sounded as I would image Ro to sound, which helps immerse you in the story.
Highly recommended along with Delilah's other books.

Not great. Not very believable and had the potential for more in depth discussion of abusive relationships but just touched on a bit of everything. Main character suuuucked

Cottagecore Hannibal

It's not horror, not really. it's queer smut with a twist at the very end. If you like smut, descriptions of food and sapphic then you may enjoy this. I found the protagonist pathetic at best, maybe that's the point? Not a horror in my opinion.
