About this listen

'I think you know who killed your stepfather', said Wexford. So begins this scintillating collection of long and short stories by Ruth Rendell. It was clear both to Wexford and Burden that Tom Peterlee was not killed for 360 pounds, but various people would have liked them to think he was...

It is a case which reminds the Chief Inspector that there is only a thin line dividing the cop from the criminal.

Not so sure about some where I could not figure out any ending but most where implicating some solution. Not sure my endings were the intended one but that’s why they are short stories to keep the suspense and imagination alive. They would not be of interest of all readers but it’s not a waste of time either to try this format for a change.

Not a bad bunch of stories

Some memorable and dark tales. I liked the shorter stories the most. Worth a listen.

These stories leave you thinking.
My absolute favourite was the last one set in mainly on Mallorca but several of the shorter ones packed equal punch notably the one about the Shopaholic. Only the first was a little tedious. These included readings especially the ones by Nigel Anthony are outstanding. Ruth Rendell certainly understood human nature. Her writing is extraordinary, full of depth, intuitive thinking and fascinatingly imagined situations. What a life what a writer. Unsurpassed in her genres.

Slightly dated but no matter

I enjoyed every one of these short stories - a couple were outstanding. Perfectly narrated by Nigel Anthony using character voices.

Good collection of short stories.

not up to usual Rendell standard. her full length novels much better. would not spend a credit, ok to read if it's free.
