The first book in the epic Avalon University dark academia series, perfect for fans of the Zodiac Academy and Atlas Six series, about a young woman who enrolls at the magical Avalon, where she must uncover the secrets of her past, find the mysterious benefactor who paved her way, and stop a sadistic killer who threatens to drench Avalon in blood.
Fear, fury, and fire.
To know is not enough.
Power flows through the ancient halls of Avalon University like a neverending flood. Admission to the elite institution enables students to hone their magic under the watchful eye of their icy headmaster.
Summer Tuatha De Daanan planned to slide through her tenure at Avalon, unnoticed and inconspicuous. She has no interest in learning more about her past or why someone applied to the school on her behalf. Her emotional walls keep everyone at bay, and her sharp tongue makes people give her a wide berth. Yet, despite her best attempts, her emotional armor begins to melt from her feral vampire roommate to the angelic senior who is never dissuaded by her feigning disinterest. Maybe this could be good for her, a new life. Yet, dark secrets lurk in the halls of Avalon, and soon those same halls are drenched in blood.
Summer finds herself as the obsession of the sadistic stalker with the warning: Seven lessons to learn. With the help of her new friends, she races against the clock to solve the mystery, hoping to save lives and catch the killer before it's too late.

This book is SO GOOD!!!
The audio is incredible! It's duet narration by Corvin King and Mercedes Manning and I LOVED immersive reading this one!
It's definitely giving Zodiac Academy vibes, so if you're a fan of ZA then I think you'll love this one too!!
I love the plot and I couldn't wait to read more and find out who was behind the murders!!
The last 10% or so I was obsessed, could not, would not put down. And the absolute cliffhanger of an ending 😱😭😭😭
I need book 2 now please!!!! ❤️

DNF at 59% - I tried, I really did TRY and I am gutted that this book and me didn't connect because it has so many ingredients that usually work for me: a magical university, fae, vampires, angels, rune magic, murder, a mysterious stalker and a headmaster who quite clearly knows far more than he is letting on.
Unfortunately, after making it through more than half of this absolute UNIT of a book - I've decided to DNF for now.
My biggest issue was the pacing. This is a 700+ page book and at 30% I genuinely struggled to tell you what had actually happened beyond attending classes, parties, Summer and Connor hooking up, getting into trouble and then hooking up some more. I love spice, but there came a point where I was begging everyone to put their clothes back on so we could actually get to the plot that was promised in the synopsis.
When the murders, stalking and mystery surrounding Summer finally started to develop, I was much more interested. I really liked the rune magic in particular and I was genuinely curious about Summer's heritage, the mysterious person watching her and whatever the Head Master is hiding. There are some really interesting ideas underneath everything, which is probably why I managed to get as far as I did.
I just think this book needed to be edited so much tighter. Even at 50%, I felt like everything I had read so far could have been told in half the pages. Had this been a 450-500 page book with more focus on the mystery, magic and world building, I think I would have absolutely eaten it up. It actually gave me Zodiac Academy vibes in places, so it should have completely been my thing!
I struggled a lot with Summer as a FMC. We're constantly told about how she doesn't trust anyone, doesn't let people in and absolutely DOES NOT DO relationships. Yet she trusts Alice straightaway and her relationship with Connor develops incredibly quickly (for saying the length of the book). One minute she's adamant she is nobodies girlfriend and the next we're eating roast chicken and mashed potatoes with his family. GIRL, MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.
And to finish, if I have to hear "big guy" one more time, I fear it may finish me off completely. I'm all for a pet name - but this was just too excessive.
There is definitely a story here that I want to hear more about, and I can completely understand why readers who have extremely chunky high-spice magical university books would have a great time with this. For me, I reached 59% and saw I had so much more to read that I was actively avoiding picking it back up.
I googled what happens, I wish I could have persevered to the end because I feel like it would have destroyed me to read it, but this book is just way too long for me.
Narration was brilliant, plot caused a DNF.
