Rusty Moss has raised his niece Mia since she was a baby. Now that she's almost 18, he's worried that the life he's given her - living off the grid in a cabin deep in the woods - is holding her back from her full potential. But that angst gets pushed aside when the undead forest animals arrive. At first it's just a squirrel - shockingly violent and almost impossible to kill. Followed by a grizzly bear, also aggressive and resilient, even when point-blank shotgun blasts to the face are involved.

In the house on Violin Road he found the bodies of his brother, his mother, and the man who killed them both-his father. From the house on Violin Road, in Missing Mile, North Carolina, Trevor McGee ran for his sanity and his soul, after his famous cartoonist father had exploded inexplicably into murder and suicide. Now Trevor is back. In the company of a New Orleans computer hacker on the run from the law, Trevor has returned to face the ghosts that still live on Violin Road, to find the demons that drove his father to murder his family-and worse, to spare one of his sons. But as Trevor begins to draw his own cartoon strip, he loses himself in a haze of lines and art and thoughts of the past, the haunting begins. Trevor and his lover plunge into a cyber-maze of cartoons, ghosts, and terror that will lead either to understanding-true understanding-or to a blood-raining repetition of the past.

Summary
They call her Blister. She's a hideously disfigured 23-year-old woman, living in a shed next to her father's house, hidden away from the world.
Jason Tray is a successful cartoonist, banished to his agent's lakeside cabin for a few days of mandatory rest and relaxation. One night, while hanging out with a couple of the locals at a dive bar, he takes them up on their offer to go "see Blister," having no idea what they're talking about.
He peeks through the window at the most nightmarish thing he's ever seen.
In the morning, he wakes up, hung over and regretful. He's better than this. Does he need to apologize?

Very Surprisingly Story about humanity.
What made the experience of listening to Blister the most enjoyable?
First of all the narrator, Daniel Dorse, does a terrific job. Jason Tray , The main charactor is a cartoonist on vacation in a small town. Drinking with new friends, they take him to see " Blister" With no explanation at all. She is very disfigured 23 year old woman with burns and slashes all over face. Jason feeling guilty about saying "what the f#@& is that ? " upon seeing Amanda. Apologizing to her the next morning , bringing her a drawing(so sweet) ,starts to unravel the entire town. I enjoyed all the characters in the town, Jeff Strand wrote a mystery, romance, suspense tale. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I thank him. . Living in a very small southern village myself, it is true some folks speak this way, we do know everytime a police car or ambulance goes to someones house. I believe it must be a phone tree deal. All that to explain why everyone in the book knows everyone and everything that's going on almost before it actually happens Really loved this book it kept me up until 3 am listening to it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jason Tray was my favorite . He was very laidback, sweet, and funny also. In any situation he tries .... to remain calm, and never stir up trouble. But one little problem, he never could stand someone "telling him what to do "
Which scene was your favorite?
When Jason scares the mean little boys away for harassing his miniature schnauzer.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Mr Mason starts to like Jason. Jason isn't sure if he's being sincere or setting him up for something.
Any additional comments?
This book did have a few horrific events occur. But it's not a horror story ! Just a very, very suspenseful book. Abosolutely would recommend. But not for the squeamish or children.

Loved this book
If you could sum up Blister in three words, what would they be?
Interesting, Amusing, Heartfelt
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main protagonist, Jason. He is funny and likable while maintaining a sense of relatability.
How could the performance have been better?
I did not like the narrator's voice for Blister. He sounded unnecessarily breathy and almost attempting to be sultry.

NO SCARS LEFT HIDDEN
Why isnt this a movie yet???Very well done, with just a stellar crew of characters-i was going in believing this was going to be a dark suspense but instead,i was quickly laughing through some awkward moments! The narration is top notch, true to each character and each personality-Daniel Drose turned this great story in a greater storytelling session.I enjoyed the pace of its progression, and the buildup of the events..very engrossing.I have already recommended this to several friends and family.

What a backwater town.
I felt so sorry for Blister and the way she was treated when she was a victim. But everyone hated her afraid their crimes and secrets would come out so they wanted her locked away in the shed never coming out. Until her hero comes along and opens the world back open for her. Great book. will have to read more Jeff Strand. Narrator was very good.

Character Driven, Warm and Fuzzy, Funny, Scary
EYEBALL JUICE
This is the best book I have listened to all year, maybe all of last year too. This has been slotted into the horror section, as that is what Strand normally writes. It is more literature, more romance and a lot more humorous, than horror. I applaud all books that include romances with women, who are not beautiful. Strand does this with class. This is not LOL funny as his book Wolf Hunt, the humor is more chuckles, although I found the part where some guys threaten to harm his dog, ended up being, fall on the ground funny. The book is in its fourth hour before anything truly scary happens. If you liked Rachael Vincent's Menagerie or Emma Donoghue's Room, you should enjoy this.

Twisted Beauty and the Beast
I really liked this story. Can’t put my finger on why, but something about it kept me glued to my earbuds. I have to say the front cover really intrigued me and was what drew me to the book in the first place. The story starts out pretty fast and is full steam all the way through. This is a definitely well worth a credit and a not to miss story by Jeff Strand. The three main characters seemed quite realistic, the supporting ones were quite odd and either provided levity to the story or just had weird lines. Jason was a great character and a really decent guy. Blister was a really likeable character as well and it was nice that Jason was able to see through her disfiguration to who she truly was. As big of a jerk Blister’s father was, I truly believe he had his daughter’s interest at heart and while he was a craggy old guy, I can’t say I wouldn’t have behaved somewhat the same way. The plot definitely draws you in quickly with the question of who Blister is and what happened to her. Parts of the plot seemed a bit predictable while others come way out of left field. All in all it a fun ride that I didn’t find terrifying at all, seemed more like a twisted version of Beauty and the Beast. The story really is a love story and has a good message along the way. I really enjoy Jeff Strand’s horror stories and I think this book really showcases Jeff’s story telling and writing. Daniel Dorse has a great narration voice, although I didn’t think it was fitting for this story. I think his voice was perfect for Malcom, but didn’t do justice for Jason or Rachel. His gruff deep voice just made Jason seem to old and made Rachel sound too breathy. Look forward to hearing more of him in different stories because he does have a good range of character voices. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
