Critic reviews

'Great fun … the great events and breathtaking brutality of the times are brought lavishly to life.' (Guardian)
'Stunning. Words like "brilliant", "sumptuous" and "enchanting" jostle to be used but scarcely convey the way Iggulden brings the tale to life … exhilarating.' (Los Angeles Times)

the reader of this book is excellent. I feel the angst of each of the characters. The plot develops beautifully. I'm a huge fan of Iggulden and will always make his work a priority to read/listen to.

Different, not his normal publication or story line, but well worth a listen too.

I liked the actors delivery of the story creating just the right amount of tension at critical points. The stream of consciousness narrative is always very absorbing like being in the head of the main character raising awareness of how they are thinking causing one to reflect on how such a situation would affect the reader.

The gripping narrative well delivered with unexpected twists leaving a question mark as to what follows.

I loved it! Although it’s only two hours long it’s better than books twice as long. Perfect for my short attention span.
I wonder if the author is trying to confess something the same way some people like acknowledgement for their murders/crimes?

Wow. Excellent.
